Title: Leaking Exhaust Heat Exchanger
Post by: The Carpet Cleaning Pro on February 18, 2012, 11:14:02 pm
On a machine I am sorting there is a blower heat exchanger and a set of 3 exhaust heat exchangers. Upon tesing today I found that there was water coming out of the exhaust. Upon closer inspection (stripping down exhaust heat exchangers) I noticed that one of the 3 has a leak. It is coming from the inner core allowing water into the exhaust.

Can this be repaired? If so by who?

I could bypass the leaking core and just run water through 2 of the 3. What effect will this have on the heat? Take longer to heat or not get the water as hot?

If you want to get exhaust hx repaired you can probably find someone local to you who deals in specialist radiator services - if you cant and are prepared to travel I have used a company called Wessex Radiators at Burseldon near Southampton - they are really excellent and quick and pretty reasonable for cost as well - they are on Providence Hill corner with Portsmouth Road - unless they have moved recently - it looks like a bit of a dump but they do excellent work and there is nothing in terms of radiators they cannot fix - they completely re-cored a radiator for me for reasonable money
Give them a call Tel: 023 80402848

Good luck

How are they going to fix it when the leak is inside? Do they cut it open or something?

Mick, is it an ambient radiator type heat exchanger? If so it may be difficult to make a repair but I've had them repaired in the past.

It is a tube-in-shell type.

Well I have bypassed 1 of the 3 and all seems ok. Still got good heat.
