Title: Why are we afraid ? Added by mod "to knock"
Post by: wpclean on February 16, 2012, 11:02:18 pm
The best most proven way to get customers is to door knock. . . . . but why dont we all do it more ?

We have paid a fortune in advertising, but it doesnt get half the results from us personally door knocking !

We are now saving money, and going out each evening for a few hours getting customers who we can personally meet.

the problem with door knocking is it's exhausting and difficult to sustain over a long period.  i have a huge amount of respect for people who can go out and build themselves a good round by door knocking.  i;ve been out myself for the past 3 weeks, and getting really good results as you say...  but it aint doing much for my social life  :P  and i dont know how much longer i'll keep it up for...  now if i could just get a good leaflet...

No matter how good the leaflet it will never replace good old face to face contact...

I agree, but canvassed customers can be a bit of a night mare, it is the way ahead if building a round, but if just topping up I prefer the customer to come to me, that way I know they actually want a window  cleaner, and didn't feel pressured into saying yes then mucking you about a month down the line, it has it's place as does all advertising, but to get customers quickly yes

sorry I wasn't having a dig at canvassers ;D I was going from experience in canvassing my own work, it is certainly the fastest way to an income, but you will have problems along the way, but would I canvass again yes, the most profitable company in my area on domestic have a full time canvasser, they have six vans and a good few lads working, they lose a good few though, but they are making good money

Good lol I agree that leaflet customers are sticky customers but it can work the same canvassing if done properly. I personally think customer turnover is normal in any business...

Are you off your nut ?!!! On the other thread you say doing 50 houses (WFP) is not really hard work, but somehow door knocking is exhausting? I give up !!!!!!!

there's nothing unusual about this?  lots of people are happier cleaning than door knocking.  in fact i would say the vast majority of people are.

Sure, but its not because one is exhausting and difficult to sustain and the other is relativleley easy and not really hard work. Its a totally different reason altogether.

different people find different things hard and different things easy.  i personally find canvassing tough going.  i dont enjoy it, and as a result find it very tiring.  window cleaning is easy for me because i like the challenge of hitting targets and like getting thru a days work

The thing with our type of work is that you industry image is very weak and people need to see if you fit there perception of us.If you look better than what they perceive us, then you have the job. Then with a leaflet there is the nine times out of ten its just put in the bin due to the volume they receive E G pizza shop which come every day in my area.So you leaflet is just one more sent to the bin.If they happen  to read your leaflet and need a windy they need to call at once or the urgency will pass by and the customer lost. Advertising is a tricky game at the best of times. Any advertising needs to be uneek, eye catching compelling, motivational to call you, impressive and that does not mean glassy paper as this can put you out of the game in the wrong area. Most of your adverts are hit and run attempts at the game. Therefore door knocking is the best acid test. And there ends my lesson.Don`t forget to all do your homework.

I have always found that door knocking has been the most effective way of building a round. I am building a round from scratch in Ireland, and am still canvassing to fill in the gaps.

Fortunately, for me, I have no hangups about knocking doors. I am polite, friendly, relaxed and try to make the householder feel the same way.

Is it tiring? At times, yes, but then if we want something badly enough we will look beyond that to the reward that repays the effort.

I haven't 'popped' yet......need to get some fliers sorted first.
