Anyone use Barclays pingit app, ( I believe it's free ).If so does it work?, and are your customers using it.
Thanks DARREN

Saw it on the news today, could be very handy, if it is safe of course.

That's where I saw it, looked on apple app store and it's there, that's all I know so far. I know they are stopping cheques in a few years and card machines are not cheap, so maybe this could be the way forward.

The banks put the plans to stop cheques on hold.

You can already accept card payments using your mobile phone, for example with Payatrader and the www.payatrader.mobi service.
At the moment Pingit is only available for Barclays account customers. From a customer perspective it's a bit fiddly i.e ask your customer to ping you a payment. What's that most will say!
Far better for you to process the card via your phone, iPad or a virtual terminal.
My opinion and yes, probably a bit biased.
Take a look at www.payatrader.com. There's a live offer on the forum if you want to join that saves £25 using code CLEANITUP.

Non-Barclays customers with a current account can only receive payments – but soon they'll be able to send money too

What a cool idea, hadnt heard of this sort of thing. Downloaded it this morning, piece of cake to set up, i sent money to my wife, also with barclays. Bit fiddly for her to set up, needs to verify mobile number, then you have to check your bank statements for a transaction (quickest done online). Took me 5 mins to set her up with it, but im quick on PC, a non pc literate person and it will take forever.
I love the concept of it. And its free, no bank charges (for personal customers).

After looking into it, the only issue that I see is for the customers to set up and use it

What's fiddly about sending a text message? ???
And best of all it's FREE. :)
-
Why use payatrader if this works and its free ?
-
I think they might struggle to compete with Barclays and other major banks that are sure to follow suit.
-
i have a fw customers who pay by paypal and this system will save me in paypal charges. so im in
-
I imagine all banks will follow suit and set up a payment app

Assuming both phones have the app installed, they simply send you a text message and the money is there in your bank instantly.

your bank is linked to your phone .so your custys pay money to your phone number from their phone its being used in india at this moment at great success. if it takes off they will prob introduce charges knowing greedy bankers
-
It says you can use other bank accounts...ive just entered my lloyds and hsbc account and neither were accepted, frustrating!

I thought the very same thing!
As long as they bank with barclays (at the moment) it is very simple for them to set it up. It took me about 60 seconds to set it up on my phone to pay someone else, it took longer for the person recieving if they dont have the app installed.....but that will be you, so shouldnt be a problem! For the customer to set up on their android phone if they bank with barclays is a piece of cake......even for your lady customers :-X ;) :o :o :o

BACS is popular and free, so I don't see why this should be any different.

Ahhhh http://ask.barclays.co.uk/help/pingit/needapptoreceivepingit
If you want to use Barclays Pingit to send as well as receive money, you'll need to download the app. At this time only Barclays current account holders can use the app but it’ll soon be available to anyone with a UK current account.

I signed up online, and my mate who is with barcalys signed up, sent me £1, instant and free.
Brilliant, and details also came in text. Very good.

i know the co-op bank are introducing it very soon. generally all the other banks wait to see if theres any errors or teething problems. once its seen to work all the banks adopt the idea
