is their a free site that you can use to find out where your site is ranked for certain search words ?

Yea, its here (http://www.google.com)

Just type your search terms in and scroll through the search results to see where you are.

try this link. it gives all three search engines google, yahoo,bing
you can put your competition webpage there as well  ;D
