Title: Domestic pole nominations
Post by: Lee Burbidge on February 08, 2012, 06:16:48 pm
WCM are looking at awards for the best of what ever it may be. The idea is that we all nominate a product ( in its category ) and vote for the one we think is best value, best product etc.

WCM will award the winner.

We will be starting with the category of Best Domestic Water Fed Pole as nominated by you guys and then as voted by you guys.

So we will start with the nomination. Which domestic wfp do you think deserves to be recognised for its usability, cost and design.

Leave your nominations in this topic or email me directly at lee@windowcleaningmagazine.co.uk

Lee, it'll be Gardiners; just give the award to them.  The only disagreement will be on the length of the SLX concerned.

I wouldn't disagree with that Tosh.
But I would say a 25ft pole is more versatile in covering the majority of situations you will encounter on domestics.
Quality, weight and value for money......got to be the SLX 25.

Yep, SLX, but I like the 18 foot, never tried the 25 footer, but it's good for 95% of all my work.

Elite my fab pole at the moment is the CLX, I love it.

So we have the CLX and the SLX so far ( Alex G - looking good)

Does any one want to nominate a pole that is not a Gardiners pole??

The Gardiners Extreme Pole will blow the socks off anything else.

Valuewise it probably trumps the rest as well when you consider the extra productivity it can allow and enhanced hourly rate.
Outside of the initial cost there can be no reason for not having one.I justified mine on health issues alone ,but now, realising the other benefits i previously mentioned,i wish i`d got it sooner.

MY ADVICE,GET THE POLE BEFORE THE PAIN.

sorry everyone that has said slx you are all wrong

the slx is a luxury pole, its not cheap at any length.

If you actually weigh up all the things in the origional post then the winner has to be the clx 22

Thats the belief i was clinging to.

Now you only think of the SLX as luxury because of the INITIAL cost.

If i`d paid £3000 for my extreme 12 months ago i`m sure i would consider it money well spent as my calculations would have the cost recovered and  it then paying me.

i reckon if you employ then the CLX 22 is the pole to have as it's the best priced and best value pole for the quality you get.  so it definitely gets my vote.  its a fantastic pole.

however, if i were doing the windows myself i would invest in the Super-Lite Extreme for my long term health.

Faster for longer, with the extreme its obvious,SLX TO CLX,its there too but a bit more subtle at 18-22ft,obvious at lengths above.
You have no excuses you bully boy employers!

its true. as an employer I give my staff clx poles (we have super max to) they are a great staff pole for the money. they get battered and are easily replaced.

If I were on the tools all day it would be brand new van, thermopure, big tank, and the extream poles.

It really depends on the individual business. to be honest gardiner poles are so far ahead of any other im suprised other companies sell any poles at all. The reason they do is simply because those window cleaners havnt tried gardiners yet!!

Is there anyone here that has used gardiner poles of any model and gone back to a previous company? I bet not.

Just like me, the lads use clx 27, but if I went back to working, I would be the same, SLX and extreme, and overpriced thermopure or Purefreedom hot.

Simply couldn't be doing with constantly repairing and messing around with systems, just would want a plug and go system.

I dont agree Lee,

Your talking a staff pole I guess, if so it work be imo the clx 27, the 22 does not hit all windows over cons and skylights.

if it is for a personal pole the SLX wins hands down without question.
when I work I use the SLX so I say this from experience of using it

I wish that was the case as I could spend less money, but I've gone from an slx to an slx xtreme and find that it's making even more money even on domestics.

I personally think that the slx xtreme 25 is the ultimate pole even for domestics but most would probably bulk at the cost, however I still think its worth it.

If your after other ideas Lee then I would have said 4 years ago the x-tel or the hx-tel but now I wouldn't touch them with a fully extended slx.

Simon.

It's to do with the rigidity and control of the pole, not just the lightness. For instance you can clean ground floor windows a lot faster than 1st or 2nd floor. Using an slx or slx xtreme doing upstairs windows is just as easy and nearly as fast as doing downstairs. Of course sticking a lighter brush on the end of a pole will help to improve a poles performance, but from having used glass fibres for years, the slx for years and now the xtreme for 8 months I can say without a doubt that you get an increase in speed.

Simon.

If the Harris had decent clamps the sellers could quadruple the price and it would still be worth every penny.
Sadly in my opinion the clamps let it down.
