Title: Safe to work
Post by: steven ainger on February 08, 2012, 01:34:53 pm
When do you judge when its safe to return to work, in this cold weather.
Theres still alot of standing snow around here, even though the main roads are clear, the minor roads are sheets of ice.
I could go and clean windows, as ive a hot system, but are you confident that youre not leaving water lying on customers paths/patios etc, to freeze during the day/night.
 Even if you salt/grit paths,
We all talk about working safely with wfp, but what about your customers safety.
Your thoughts please

I to, am not working in these icy conditions,
But the reason i asked this question was that i saw another wfp cleaner out today,
And thought it was irresponsible.

How do you determine irresponsible to work?? If the window cleaner you saw working deemed it safe enough for him to work and if he rock salted paths after then this is not irresponsible. Maybe before judging you might like to consider that he may need to continue working, financial commitments etc.  Most probably found that his pipes froze after a couple of jobs and decided to head home until ice clears!

I gave up on work at the first job. I poured a few drops of water on the pavement and it froze in under a minute.

Financial comitments dont come into it, doesnt make it safe.
I wasnt judging, i asked if even with salting  are you sure you leave the property in a safe condition

answer probably not just by salting, maybe we should clean the windows then clear the customers paths etc for them, i reckon they would all be happy with that. you know going that extra mile

we are out working, as we have tried to do all week(not monday)
We are salting/gritting as we go and customers like it coz its something thing they aren't doing themselves
Is it safe to work? Its a judgement call for us and each house is different-houses on estates are fine but going to the sticks then probably no.Thats more for looking out for us rather than customers.Having said that,we did get a nice tow from a local farmer today and got a free bacon buttie whilst waiting!! ;D so not all doom and gloom
