Title: Santander business account
Post by: bad trippy on February 07, 2012, 06:04:28 pm
Thinking of getting a satander business account, however, i hear ppl on here have complained about not being able to identify certain payers, that have paid by bank transfer.
Not sure if it applies to the customer having a Santander account, or the merchant.
So if any of you have a Satander business account, can you tell me if you have trouble with bacs payments?

Not free anymore, the cheapest start up is £7.50 per month, for handling a certain amount.
We have been using lloyds tsb personal account these last few years with no bother, loads of cheques going through, and equally lots of bank transfers, we are easily identifiable.
Just weighing up, if its gonna cost me too much of a headache to change over

Keep an eye out for the number of cheques you deposit, I had a monster fine last month, £197 for going over the free limit of 100.

Opened up a separate account with them now which I will use for cheques only, £7.50 per month, unlimited cheques.

Got to be better than £197 again!!

Concept, If I had a fine of £197 I would've closed my account straight away and taken my business elsewhere! I joined the Federation of small business' (FSB) and get free business banking with Co-Op which is good and really easy to use. It cost £120.00 to join, includes free tax investigation insurance, free 24hr legal advice line and tons of other stuff that I haven't even looked at yet!  :)

Nationwide current account all the way.....custies dont seem to be too fussed who they make the cheque out to.

Or you could ask them to leave it blank. Nationwide are very happy with me using my other account for work.

The referencing problem with Santander was for customers who had an Alliance & Leicester account before it was bought out by Santander.  Took them ages to rearrange the A & L software so that you could see the reference for who was paying you.  However I'm very pleased to say it's sorted now and the account is ideal for us.  Co-op do a similar free business banking account

I have a Santandair account for my other business and its fine. Its a proper business account, I don't see any point in paying out about £10 a week in bank charges if I don't have to. And there are 3 branches within walking distance of my home.

ditto i am santander ex alliance and leicester and yes there were some customer reference issues which have now been sorted , i dont use a high street bank because there is no charge for paying in cheques where high street banks charge around 50p. i pay in approx 100 cheques per week , which saves me £200 per month :o NO CONTEST!!

They rectified this a few months ago.  Only took them two years.  I no longer trust them so have bank transfers paid elsewhere.  I only use Santander for the cash and cheques now - and only then because I live a few minutes walk way from the branch where I can pay in at the ATM 24/7.

£197 for cheque deposits at Santander.  By my reckoning that's 494 cheques deposited in a month.
