Was just curious what people thought about before and after photos of work done.Have seen quite a few on peoples web sites and was considering asking customers would they mind but i'm unsure if it's slightly cheeky.

In future just mention that you may use pictures taken in future marketing. You could always add this as a clause to your contract's small print.
If it's after the event then just do it, no names or details have to be included.
Just be careful not to show anything that could identify the address etc. to those looking otherwise their could be issues with breach of privacy.

Just take them. After all you're only photographing the carpet or sofa etc... nothing else really should be in shot
Nobody's going to recognise their carpet if they should happen to look at your website again at some point in the future - if it is only the carpet in shot.
What would be stupid is to take a photo with big pictures of family members in full shot!

I have always told customers that the images are a digital record of the work carried out and get filed away with the job sheet.

Just ask nicely.
Unique pictures (or videos) are far better than stock ones
The only place you are likely to get a "no" is e.g. a security type business.
I don't think I have ever had a request turned down.
As per previous suggestion, don't include custmers without prior permission and NEVER place pictures of children on the web.

'A picture paints a thousands words!
On the basis that you should 'show - don't tell,' I'd say that pictures of your own work on your website are essential and way better than the meaningless stock pictures that adorn so many cc sites.
