It is ok in the sun here, but it is the shade that is the problem.

tried on our living room window in the shade and it is freezing, there is heat on in the house too.

Looks like I will have to carry on with the decorating.

I just hope next week is better.  I think we've done about £300 this week (but I had Monday off to go to court).

I think you should concentrate on getting more work, and don't focus so much on getting to your customers bang on every-four-weeks.  I know a trad guy who can and does do this, but he is OCDish with how he works and he has suffered from mental health issues in the past.  Even all that snow and freezing temps did not stop him last year (respect to him); he was still bang on.

But with more work, you just work your way through your round in the most logical order possible; so if you only work half-a-day, you start when you finished the day after.  And come next month you will be slightly late, because you have more work than you need, it's not an issue if you clean all these properties on the same day.

Have I explained that clearly?

@ tosh...

yeah i know what your saying tosh and i appreciate your wisdom (as always sir) but i like the fact that i give the clients an exact date.

also i dont suffer from a mental illness BUT i am like you mentioned also a little ocd(ish) as you may or may not have gathered from my 2000 + posts  ;D

i agree with you on the count that i need more work that is certain!!!

thank again tosh

just do the work and put it all back together on the next clean, people dont mind if you tell them, why skip some and wait till next time as you lose that money then.

I went out late today and got just short of a days work done, Monday that work will be added to mondays work and next month will be back on the correct day, so I am not say to do anything that I don't do myself.  ;)

Is no-one gonna come on and tell the poverty stricken W/C's to purchase a hot system, and how they wont regret it? ;D

the hot water causes its own probs when really cold cause when the water ends up on the floor its like an ice rink you spend a lot of time making it safe again .

Surely ones you can't do today you do tomorow and not miss them out for 4 weeks and can't see how you can give an exact date. Anything can happen in 4 weeks. I tell mine see you in 4-6 weeks as that gives me a bit of grace and if I get there in 4 great but if for some reason I get there in 6 for whatever reason they know and no-ones waiting or wondering if your gonna turn up. Sod that exact date lark. Used anti freeze in my bucket last 3 days and had no probs. Can you not put in in your tanks. Just a thought.

Cold or hot it's going to freeze on the floor. Simple as that. Hot does enable you to keep working. No freezing water on the window, did freeze on the floor, but salt sorted that out. Even hot will freeze on the window eventually, if it's cold enough, but it's kind of time to go home then, really!

Part of the job, at least with a hot system it keeps you working for longer.

I find I can work in most weathers,.. below 0c you have to pick & choose your jobs (eg not splash water all over a busy street etc) and below -5 it gets really challenging even with a hot system.

I always spread salt BEFORE I start, and I use a lot of it, about 3 kg on a 3 bed semi. If you spread it before you start then the water passing it, flowing over it will pick up salt as it goes & all the water will be salty. If you spread salt afterwards, you only melt the patches the salt directly touches & its hard to get an even coverage I find. Below -6 salt simply does not work though,.. you need proper "Ice melt" type products.

I always prevent my van from freezing overnight. In the morning I run my heater for 5 mins before I leave the house, just to circulate warm water through the hose reel,.. that way when the hose touches the ground it won't immediately freeze. When its really cold, I also fill my trad bucket with hot pure water before I leave the house, as frozen brushes/jets can be melted in seconds just by dipping them in the bucket.

My biggest problem in the cold weather is driving to work. The roads by me are rarely salted, and its not worth risking my life when the roads are impassable.
