hi all
not live .. work in progress .. initial thoughts please ( gently) lol ;)

A picture of you and the van with a brief introduction would be better IMO... People like to see who they're going to be allowing in to their home...
Maybe a picture of Brad Pitt with a wand would get lots of women customers ringing ;D
-
C+++ D++ always put a pic on the ads.
Mind you it could put people off! ;D

Ya cheeky bugger.... ;D

i have something lined up for the home page..van etc.. ( which is showing as a holding page now whilst the site is being built) so you cant see it on the link
-
i like that you've put your shutterstock logo over the images so others can't steal them :P
-
like i said .. not live yet.. still playing about with images and layout etc...
-
I like the site Paul few more pictures and it will be sorted.
-
I think its nondescript and bland, it will be forgotten 10 seconds after the viewer clicks away, this sounds a little harsh but I think it needs more perrrzzas!! some thing that makes it different from every other website the viewer will see.
Hector i deleted both yours and adams post as they they served no purpose than to make you both look childish...... if you want to swop insults then have some balls and give him a call or pop round and see him
-
perzzas? like what?... more perzzas makes it look more taccy do you not think?....
ah i;ll cuddle wor lass up next to the van (or tractor) and say we are family run... i get it now ;D
-
sorry thought you wanted honest opinions not back-slapping and praise...
its great!!!! just put up some of your own photos and you will have a great website...... do you prefer me to lie to you or try and be helpful even if its not want you really want to hear?
-
Somebody's in a bad mood, have a drink.... ;D
Saying it's a family ran business appeals to a lot of people, I've personally found.... :)

Paul,
When I did my copywriting training, we were always told "never let the reader have to work something out themselves". So...
Make sure you have captions under EVERY image / photograph.
I see it is a Wordpress site. Are you doing it yourself?
If you are, add a plug in called CB Net Ping Optimizer. The reason for this is that every time you re publish a page, Wordpress "pings" the spiders. If you are constantly changing the page, you might send out say, twenty pings. This is "unusual" activity and can be interpreted as spamming. This plug in limits these pings to "normal" (large scale changes) which looks more natural.
-
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D.... eeee same people make me chucle uckle uckle on here ..
mike i accept your comments... honestly i do... i have combine harvester booked for a photo shoot next to the tyne bridge with a few camels (dont take the hump)!.. and all my family!... while i bungee jump in the background for charity gaining a bit media coverage (or free advertising / marketing)..now thats perzzaaas!..
so you dont rate the website project while someone else does.... who's right then?.. and what makes a particular site different from all the others.... u tube vids?... everyone seems to have those now..
keep the banter coming! ;D ;D
least im honest enough to post my site etc,, up assassination.. unlike some on here

[Garry - yeah the home page has images etc.. that are captioned etc.. but all youll see at the mo on teh home page is the holding page whilst its under construction- yes its wordpress .. a friend is doing it for me as i just want an improvemnet on my last self build site.. so budget wise i'm limited but its looking way better than i imagined IMO... all that spider lingo is foreign to me!..)
-
I'm with Mike - it feels like it's missing a certain 'je nais c'est quoi' - can you get some moving images? or images transforming into other images or something? It looks a bit like a template page (which no doubt it is), and not really personal enough - if that makes sense?
I do like the banner at the top, and the overall 'cleanliness' of the pages though.

Whats K2 have to do with a cleaning business?
Great name for a scafolding co.

K2 Cleaning Services "for a PEAK finish" ;D

I see lots of comments on here about templates.
What is wrong with templates?
-
I don't have a problem whatsoever with templates, only that if they're not modified enough they can look a bit 'generic', I suppose.
IMHO of course :)
-
nothing wrong with tenplates, i need ten plates to put all my food on at tea time ;D
-
Paul,
The beauty with Wordpress is you can totally change the whole look in just a couple of clicks of the mouse.
The fact that is a content management system means you can add / edit pages and posts yourself. it's a good choice.

Hi
sorry mike i dont agree, i think the tone is spot on . the days of red stars and colour blocks are gone clean and sharp with lots of white background seems to be the new thing.
just been through it all having a rebuild with some top consultants.
The only point i would make is the home page is very wordy, i know you are going to add some pics but it looks to much people will 'bounce off' and wont read all that text.
last thing is there are few call to actions like 'call us now' or 'contact us for free survey'. they might love your site but you need to tell them what to do.
all my opinion but tips came from some serious london webmasters.
cheers

Oh yes they do... if it's interesting enough to them.

not what i have been reliably informed. you will see many big brand site now dont have any text as such just images and bullet points.
i am no expert just passing on info i have paid good money for. the guys helping me have done several big campaigns for big money. i am on mates rates otherwise i couldnt afford them. i trust them its upto anyone else if they think its right or not.

The trouble here John is that you don't have access to my test / conversion results.
We'll have to differ on that point.
I agree with you about minimal / white look though.
-
well thank you guys for your honest opinion and seems like good honest points toward the end
Garry - extcatly that with wordpress mate allows me to edit / change with minimal fuss / cost!
clarkson - i appear to be on your wavelength with design / look etc.. regarding my page content yeah im going to trim it down .. also you cant see my home page yet as its currently set a holding page ( the one you see on the link).. ill post if i can but i like it
thanks

Paul,
This may sound a daft question.. but what is the purpose of your website (what do you want it to do)?
-
To promote / sell my services/ increase my visibility/etc etc.. .. although i may not need a site to sell my services ;D
what is the purpose of any website?
-
might need a bit of tweaking but i really like it ,less is more,a lot of the carpet cleaning websites are very tacky and obvious, yours has class
well done

It looks good at first sight, so the overall layout and design are very good. The content, however, needs a lot of work doing.
Side headings: you ask a question and then you don't answer it. This is a common fault throughout the entire site.
I'd suggest that you really clarify precisely what information (i) your customers want/need and (ii) you want to give. Then, if you must use side headings, make them flow and put the relevant information in a single paragraph under each heading.
* Who we are:
* Why it's important to keep your carpets clean:
* How we clean your carpets:
* Why we are better than our competitors:
I'm not suggesting that's the precise format, but it gives you an idea.
The Landlords & estate agents page needs a lot of work doing to it. These people are usually educated and expect high standards.
I also noticed a lot of randomly placed Capital Letters.
-
Nice clean look to the site. I would add a basic contact form on the contact page... but thats me. Something like this http://www.thecarpetcleaningpro.co.uk/contact_us.htm. This form also has an aut response set up with it set up by form mail. This is quite easy to install and is FREE and has a firum to help you with any problems setting it up. http://www.tectite.com/

Hi Gary
I know what you are referring to, as you have some good copy on your site (i bet you didnt write that yourself). This does work.
Paul however is falling into a trap, a mistake i have recently learned about on all my own marketing. i used to write all the text myself. not only was it riddled with grammatical errors, i used to bang on for paragraph after paragraph about cleaning carpets and my equipment.
this is different to your cleverly worded copywriting that draws people in.
john
-
John,
Thanks for your kind words. Yes, I did write the copy myself. I was lucky enough to be trained by (allegedly) the highest paid UK copywriter (before he put his training prices up out of my reach - now £5K + a percentage of future earnings, I believe). I learned a lot about testing results etc.
I think your friends and myself may be talking about different circumstances. If they are working on say, multi product data feed sites then I can understand their approach. If we are talking about small business sites then we really need to give as much information as we can. We need to use the "what's in it for me?" approach and write it from the customers' point of view.
Paul,
The reason I asked you that is that it's much easier to build sites when you have a clear idea of how you want them to work.
For example, on a couple of my affiliate sites I was trying to sell products straight off the page to new visitors. This year they will be changed to be more low key (less hard sell) and hopefully become more of authority type sites, providing much more information.. The idea will be to have everything biased towards capturing emails and building a relationship with visitors, rather than a one off sale. I hope that makes sense.
