i wouldn't waste money on that.
you may be on a budget but that RO will slow you down, and in the long run cost you money.
as you will need to upgrade it or replace it.
-
Sorry to hijack but im in the same position as you, got a TDS meter and have done a few readings my tap water is ranging from 180-195 tds.
The one above seems a good price!
I was thinking of getting this one:
http://www.purefreedom.co.uk/300-gpd-compact-reverse-osmosis-system-p-608.html (http://www.purefreedom.co.uk/300-gpd-compact-reverse-osmosis-system-p-608.html)
Ideally want around 150 litres a day to do tops only in WFP. Would this be ideal? Would the pumped version be better and how long would it take approx to fill 6 25 litre barrels? Im on a water meter too.

So whats wrong with that one, is the one I linked better? What one would you recommend?

sean that one is quite expensive ,i hope the one i have found will do to start off.

Will take ages to produce the pure water.
Go for a 300 GPD or bigger ideally with a booster pump.

+ booster pump £97.05
How long to fill 6 25l barrels approx? Or would be better filling up a water butt?

I bought the 200gallon per day pumped version last week as i'm only just starting out and dont need hugh quantities of water yet. My water going in is about 220ppm and like you i have lowish water pressure. The RO is giving me about 400lts every 24hr with good to bad water being about 1 to 3 which on a meter might make me cry when i get the bill lol. One thing is get some decent resin as the stuff supplied was crap, water coming out before DI was 9ppm and the supllied resin could only get it down to 7.
Personally as i'm producing into a tank in the garage i have 24hrs a day to produce what i need, if i was going straight into the van and had to produce the water just while the van was on the drive i dont think it would keep you going.

Which one John Hewitt or Pure Freedom?
-
John Hewitt

im doing it from the garage to only need half that water so will go for the 100g for now and upgrade if need be,do you run the pump on a timer to save it burning out?
-
Have a look at Vyair: http://www.vyair.com/scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=96
I have the older version of this ro which has only one booster pump and produces about 60 ltrs of pure per hour.
The one in the picture is the newer version with 2 booster pumps and is faster than mine.
If you are on a meter you have to consider how much waste will be produced also.
-
yep pump on a timer
-
what timer do use and what times do you set it?
thanks

That looks good for the money, better value than the Pure Freedom I linked. Bookmarked, will probably get that one ;)

Simple one with the push down segments. 2hrs On 30mins off

I'm going to be producing water in the garage and I think I will be going for a 300GPD unit. I will produce more water than needed but I'm going to filter into a IBC or two maybe.
For the additional £100 to go from 100GPD to a 300GPD I believe it is worth it. :-)
Have you bought a tank, pole, reel, hose or anything like that yet? If not there are a few good budget packages which include the 300GPD. :)

false ecomony buy cheap, trust me we all been there

Stupid question but I have a downstairs toilet next to the area Im going to produce water, what fittings would I use to connect to the sink tap?
-
Sean, your better of getting a tap fitted that you can connect a hozelock or simular too. As you dont want the toilet sink out of action and what if it pops off whilst your out and floods the bathroom?
Unless your filling direct into van but still same situation in my eyes.
-
just to add on waste water my cheap RO, had a waste to pure ratio of 4:1
my current RO has a ratio of 2:1 maybe a bit less than 2.
so buy cheap and throw a lot of water away.

What do you mean, an outside tap?
-
ok if not cheap ,whats an ok one i can get with pump and di or is cheaper to buy a seperate di,some peoples must know where the deals are? do you even need a di if you can get the water below 10?
-
have a look at the vyair site, i had the 450gpd, now have the 650gpd. and a daqua 11l DI.
very good RO and any problems have been delt with quickly.

What problems?! Was going to order this one soon:

Was this the one you had?
-
I had a faulty auto flush, it was dumping out too much waste water.
They sent out some parts too swap over. but in the end gave me a brandnew 650gpd RO in a metal cabinet as a replacement worth about £400.

if these are new cleans, you will need a lot more than 150l per day unless your only cleaning a few a day imo
-
i got this one and it is ok (100 gallons a day) the only drawback is its slow to produce water i leave mine on overnight 12 hours to produce 210 litres which does me, when im more busy it is just running all the time just depends how busy you are
-
What you have the one I linked with the pump and Di,what number does your water go in at

Tops only need more than 150litres a day? Think I will be lucky to get 4 25l barrels in the estate let alone more :(

forgive me for being thick but while your at work all day and the ro is pumping the water in an ibc tank in garage for example whats to stop it overflowing :-\
-
Hi Magic half of these guy think to big for a started I thing that extend to wash is a good choice all you should ask John to add id another membrane if you can afford it. If not that one will work fine but I would guess 200 litres per day will be fine if you have static tank so you can produce water while you are working. You can add 2 or 3 membranes to produce more water and much waste water. That pump JOHN SELLS IS VERY GOO AND WILL INCREASE THE FLOW RATE GREATLY.IF YOU HAVE A 200 LITRE WATER BUTT OR TWO YOU WILL ALWAYS HAVE ENOUGH WATER TO KEEP YOU GOING FOR 2/3 GEARS BEFORE YOU NEED A LARGER RO.i SET THE RO PRESSURE AT 100 PSI AND IT WORKS JUST FINE
-
i have a 300gpd ro with a static 1000ltr tank . my van also carries 1000ltrs. my ro is running 24/7 while im at work and while im in bed. takes 24hours to fill 1000ltrs. i never run out . not on a water meter though.
