Title: Things to say when approaching hotels??
Post by: Fran84 on January 20, 2012, 01:55:50 pm
Hi Guys,

Gonna start phoning hotels over the next few weeks. I'm thinking to offer a no obligation 'test' clean. However, I'm stuck on which questions I should be asking, what statements I should be making etc.

Are there any telesales gurus out there that can help me with a pitch!!

Obviously dont want it to sound to much like a pitch.

Thanks in advance guys.

Fran

Perhaps send a letter detailing the work/offer out first, then a follow up with a personal visit. You can then basically reiterate what you have said in the letter and answers any questions they may have.

Things to say when approaching hotels??

"Do you have any vacancies?" ;D ;D

Why don't you want it to sound like a sales pitch... it IS a sales pitch!  You should be proud of yourself and confident.  After all, they are a hotel... with carpets, upholstery and mattresses.... they have a need for your services.

You just have to avoid sounding like the brainless minimum wagers who make sales calls all day long that start with the line "can I speak to the person in charge of XXXXX please......"  you know, the ones you hang up on.

It's difficult thinking of an opening line that isn't immediately going to activate the defences of whoever answers.

Depends what sized hotel you're phoning as to the approach.  It's safe to assume that in any decent sized hotel the call will be answered by a receptionist, and the person you'll want to speak to will be a facilities manager or head housekeeper

In smaller hotels it may well be the owner who answers the phone and makes decisions on cleaning etc, so a bit of homework might be needed.

In all honesty, hotels will be a tough nut to crack.  The national chains have national contracts with big companies, following pre-determined price structures and service levels... the door is likely to be firmly closed in those cases.  But the smaller independent ones might be an option.

I think hotels are the kind of place you'd be best making a call in person, nice warm smile as you walk up to the reception desk and make your opening line count!

Some how I just knew Jim s opener was going to be " have you any vacancys "  ;D Fran start with B&B and guest houses and then work up as you get more confident and if you land a major chain dont forget about us  ;D

Hello, we are Mr & Mrs Jones we have a reservation for an hour.  ;)

Get one nice one under your belt and then ring up others and say you do such and such a hotel and say you thought they were a similar place that would want to use a service like yours.

Find out who is in charge and ring them up at an odd time, otherwise you will get the runaround or waste your breathe.

Good luck you will need it.  :)

We do a hotel near me and we have cleaned over 20 rooms for them with the recurring themes of puke, red wine and pee.

They never plan in carpet cleaning just because it needs done despite me showing both the general manager and the housekeeping manager the black water that comes out of the waste tank.

I agree with Lindsay. I work with several 5 star hotels and they never take up maintenance plans.

Its always reactive.

When I used to do Hotel I used to go in 3 days a month but it was always budget orientated. they would try to get the price cheaper and cheaper, but it was a good steady flow of work. I would recommend asking for the house keeping manager as they are the ones who deal with the day to day cleaning of the hotel, ( the general manager wont give you the time of day at bigger hotels ). Good luck.
