If theyre gonna moan they will moan no matter what day

If they want a window cleaner they wont care what day it is

Alot of it is your manner as you approach people etc , i have knocked doors for years as a job, and i  do find it quite easy to deal with awkward people but 99.9 are fine , and who cares about the muppets, if they dont like someone knocking at the door to see if they want a service , you dont want them as a custy !!!

Sound good advice pal,i don't mind knocking but just wary on a sunday but i agree that a good percentage will be in,cheers might do a 4 hour stint and then 2 hours next week most days when i can get out.

Will never canvass on a Sunday, day of rest and all that, show some respect to those and us who work long hours, its a FAMILY DAY....and should be respected.HOW WOULD YOU FEEL IF SOMEBODY KNOCKED SELLING/OFFERING SERVICES?

I WOULDN'T MIND at all. if there was a sign up saying no door knockers that would be different, but why not call around otherwise on a Sunday?

its like saying DON'T CALL ON PEOPLE IN EVENINGS AFTER THEY'VE BEEN WORKING ALL DAY!!  if can't call weekends or evenings, then when can ya call? during day when they're not at home?!

just go for it mate. but be respectful if they aren't happy with your calling

You will never get the right answer for this question, some people will be ok with it, while others will quote "the day of rest.

I have knocked on a sunday and I got work on it as well, I also get phone calls from people looking for window cleaners on sundays.

its not as bad as 30 years ago, when all shops where closed, you will find that sundays is becoming a family day where they can sort out things like this as a family, I have knocked on doors in the week and the wife has said "I will have a word with hubby first" on sunday at least hubby is at home.

I think the difference is with window cleaning, you are not "selling a product" but "offering a service".

Nick,

get out of the dark ages  ::)  ;D
I would not personally go out on a sunday to canvass, but thats only because I don't want to work at weekends no other reason, if it was a day off rest tesco's would be closed as would every shop, cafe, pub, toby carvery (yum) and everything else, could you imagine how bad the country would be if that old mentality was everywhere
.
Sean hit it right on the nail with: if they are going to moan they will anyway. and thats true.

If someone come to my house on a sunday I would tend to feel sorry for them and listen a little more having to work on a sunday as i'm relaxed, rather than moaning at them for doing it.

thats a good point. you are forgetting one thing. not everyone thinks like you. so what you end up with is guys with a lot of customers and guys who wont knock doors on sundays.

ive picked up new customers that are only at home on the weekend. you wouldnt have got those would you? i try not to second guess what people think.

Do you have a link to back this up, I tried googling it, but no where did it say it's illegal?

I've been canvassing on and off for about 17 years and I've only had one unpleasant encounter (well two if you count the 'incident' with the German Shepard). Always be friendly even if they're a bit gruff and you'll be fine.

Where's that Denise? La-La Land?

I have many friends there and in "Cloud Cuckoo Land" and I live just across the border in "My own little world" and I've never heard of it being a problem to be honest!

There's a few more than that.........unless they've all been arrested for working and cold canvassing on the day of rest and roast  :o. And so they should, there was nothing more annoying than someone knocking at the door as I was mopping my gravy up and The Love Boat was just coming on  >:(.
I'd be glad of the company now  :-\.

Just had a customer ring for a quote,... shall i tell her its my "day of rest "on sunday and not to bother me ?...

Canvassed lots of sundays, its by far the best day of the week to catch people in.

Dont listen to those who say "would you like it if........"

Go for it mate, its your business, watch the customers pile up.

let us know how you get on.

if it is bothering someone, then you are at the door less than a minute,  and if they want a wc then they are happy,  i plan on knocking next saturday and sunday,  and most of the following week,  as its my quiet week

Most so called laws on cold calling are aimed at the large gas and electric companies and are more of a guideline than anything else...

Went out yesterday evening. Most people in. Only did 45 mins, got 1 job and 3-4 interested but money a bit tight after crimbo so will go back around March. I've not once had someone moan at me... Will definitely go out next Sunday.

just to put the cat amongst the pigeons here-we never canvass on a sunday
picked up 38 new customers since 3rd Jan ;D

Its a tough call if your on the tools as well, when else are you gonna do it apart from weekends? and sundays must be a good day to catch people in so its just horses for courses.
If it works for you, then go for it.I agree with earlier comments about sunday canvassing being a bit of a no no for utility companies, but if your a sole trader , people wont mind too much.Probably welcome the chance to talk to someone who's dedicated to his trade maybe?

Good luck to all of you whichever way you do it 8)
