How do LM operators go about cleaning stair carpets? Is there a smaller hand-held rotary machine or some other way of operating?

i use a rug doctor with the upholstery tool attached and hoover,prespray, clean with hand pad dipped in solution then extract.

:o So you tell the customer it could be a long time until the stairs are dry then!
I got rid of the Tex system hand held rotary tool as it was next to useless, but then that was just my experience/view on it.
Stairs take a daily hammering and HWE with a decent machine is the only way to get reasonable results.

I use a Cyclo machine with an encap product.

Pre-vacuum before spraying solution.
After cleaning, I also vac; up the "extras" that have been dislodged.
Prior to the Cyclo, I was using my "Lil Mak", a Makita variable speed polisher with bonnet attached, then sometimes extracting with my spotting machine after.
Whilst this gave reasonable results, it was still "not quite" good enough for me.
The Lil Mak is very quiet whereas the Cyclo is noisier with a rattly sound. But it does the job superbly.

Hi Seymour, this is how I would LM stairs:
Thorough pre-vacuum.
Pre-spray (I usually use a colloid).
Agitate with Floormac using brush attachment.
Allow pre-spray 15 minutes contact time.
Finish off with Floormac (with pad lightly sprayed with microsplitter).
Groom Carpet.

except that I usually use HD microsplitter instead of the colloidal, sometimes the encap product (fusion clean) but the machine I use is similar to the makita that Shorty used to use.

I use the minitex and get good results. As do all the magic dry operators in Perth wa.

Thats exactly what i tell them the stairs will take longer to dry as my dry fusion machine dont fit on them lol never had a complaint.
