Title: upvc cladding on houses
Post by: Blast Away on January 09, 2012, 05:33:33 pm
What have you used or do you use for restoring these?

Job come up and in the appendix it states a restorer is to be used. Now I know there's gels, creams and solvents. We've used solvent on window frames in the past to make them gleam but this contract is many houses with a third of the house fronts cladded consisting of algae. We've always just used a degreaser, scrubbed and rinsed. This is a fast approach but will it be the finish they want. Buffing these up by hand would take a couple hours each one if using just a cream or solvent.

What do you suggest?

Hi

I have done a few like them over the years and they are very time consuming and horrible jobs to do.
I billed at 20 p/h plus solvent  and used a solvent cleaner which i put into a trigger bottle and just went for it.
Used plenty of rags and im sure i had a mask because of the smell of the solvent , i still use solvent cleaner but only on my own home now ,i just hate doing it.....

try e-cover washing up liquid dipped in the bucket on these, they don't look too bad,try it you'll be suprised at the result-cheap too to buy, dilution wise you'll have to work it out yourselves on this one-guess neatish first then adjust, solvent >:( >:(have used that for years when fitting windows)-don't bother mate,on a job that size by the end of it your skin will look like a prune/you'll have the voice of jack duckworth by the end of it and it'll cost a packet unless you get a drum of it,if it was me doing them,i'd be spraying tfr/e-cover with a backpack or trolly then blasting off with a petrol power washer set at a low pressure(just my thoughts)i'd probably use a good brush aswell to speed it up not a vikan gardiners all the way would work very nicely :D

Thanks for the replies guys. Richie I buy a degreaser that is stronger than that and it's only £3 per 5 liters.

Awaiting reply to see what finish they want.

May sub out if solvent/cream restoration required.
