Title: Ok we'll give you a try.
Post by: andyjm1 on January 08, 2012, 12:24:09 pm
Don't you just hate it when customers say this to you?

Beware of this phrase when canvassing, from my experience it rarely leads to a good customer.

I got this once before I even got to the new job.
Whjen I got there, it was rubbish access and would have been a liability so I priced higher knowing it would only be a one off.  When they asked me when I would be returning, I declined.  Some people just don't get it that some jobs aren't viable if they are small jobs where you have to find the person at home in order to clean.

My response to this is always "we are a professional window cleaning company with x happy customers and we have been cleaning windows for x years , if there is ever a problem with any work that we do we will return to rectify it" thay are usually happy to proceed then and organise frequency with you :)

I always smile when new customers say this to me, because I know that by the time I have finished, they will be singing my praises for the job that I did. The reason is that I always try to do the job to a standard that exceeds their expectations.

In almost 15 years, I have never had a bad customer who has started by saying they'll give me a try. In my experience they have proved to be among the most loyal customers I had.   :)

In their experience it may be that their last windy let them down by being unreliable, or shoddy in their work, and therefore by the time you come along, they are expecting the same from you and therefore say they will 'give you a try'.

im relatively new to window cleaning but ive had 2 who have said this, 1 who i keep ringing to do the second clean but keeps saying they are fine( i think they just used me for a one off can) and the other that when i went back to do the 2nd clean has said he was more than happy but wanted it on a  bimonthly which im quiet happy about. in this business you need to work out quickly who would be a good customer or a messer . something that im getting pretty good at now... anyone who asks me now if i dont like the way its going i give them a no, im too busy the way i see it is i can do these windows but it takes 3 to 4 times longer which in turn is not a massive prob but the amount of water you get through is crazy. restricting you to what you can achieve on a daily basis

You should never prejudge as you can never tell, just get the customer on board and do a fantastic job. Some will stay and some will stick, its just the way of the world.

Why should a customer make a decision to stay with you until they have seen the quality of your work?

Talk is cheap anf the proof is in the finished job....

to a new customer, you are a complete stranger
so what if you have a uniform and a snazzy sign written van ?
you are on their property and they need to feel comfortable with that and the standard of your work
trust is earnt and should not be expected just because you regard yourself as a proffessional

Can't see the problem myself.
They don't know you from Adam, they don't know your work.
Maybe they shouldn't say it like that, but it's what we all think when we try something new like a new shop or cafe.

It's nothing personal, a lot of my best customers had that attitude at first and cos they look for a good job, they never take on someone else new who comes calling and I can charge more.

I thought the funniest one was the guy who once asked me for a free trial.  I told him that I could earn nothing by sitting at home too.  Never asked again.

lol, what a cheek! was he Irish by any chance?!
I'm similar to johnny b, can't blame them for having doubts, there's a lot of bodgers out there. its nice to see the impressed look on their faces once you've finished!

I normally take that comment to mean they have high expectations.

the alternative, is dump them before you even start, and get 2 more who don't say it!
