Just an article I found.
Probably blindingly obvious to most people - but could be useful to someone

so let me get this right... you need a bigger engine for commercial carpet cleaning. What I want to know is how does the engine size make a difference when its the blower that sucs and the pump that sprays the water and from what I have seen the engine just drives the belts?
-
The size of the engine defines the size of the pump and particularly the blower, small engines can't drive huge blowers like the one on a Titan 875 which is quadruple belt driven taking 60% of the engines power making it capable of moving 800 cubic feet of air a minute. The bigger the blower the greater the vac performance espcially at very long lengths.

You could have a small engine driving a large blower BUT only if a gearbox was put into the system. Whilst it's possible it's actually not practical, so with a direct drive which TM's are (ie 1:1 drive) the larger and more powerful the engine the better and faster it can drive the blower.
-
A bigger engine will also provide more heat and will get up to temp' quicker
-
Blowers are specified to horsepower so for bigger blowers you need more horsepower.
-
so does that mean that poor Billy Russell who by all accouts only has a small blower, has also.....
only got 1 horse - according to John Kelly
is cold - according to Mike Halliday
and only got a short hose - according to Simon Gerrard
;D ;D

Hi Guys
The other big issue is the size of the van required to fit the TM in.
If you are doing lots of residential in tight areas then a large van can be a problem.
Cheers

Thats my problem Doug as i do most of my work in Oxford where some of the streets are really tight even for a swb transit.I am having to give serious consideration to selling my steamway and getting a prowler due to on going weight issues.Regards Alan

I always said that if I had to do a lot of offices I would get a TM.
Then the offices I was doing were 6 or more floors up and no doors were to be left open for hoses. Thank goodness for LM pads.
I did hear once of someone who drove his truck into the foyer of a big bank and shut the doors. - Or was I dreaming again?

Too much bathams I think Trevor ;D
Sorry Steve That article is about as useful as a chocolate vac hose :) :) :)
But... you've been reading up on truckmounts...are you considering switching over to the Dark Side?!! :D :D

I could see Mike Driving this TM...

Doug,
What van have you got. I can see it in your profile pic but cant work out what it is. Have you got enough room for all your bits and pieces?

Looks like a relay/ducato/boxer to me?
