Hi,
Does anyone use a low moisture or dry cleaning system for cleaning rugs.
At present we either clean them by hand or have the dry cleaning system fitted to the ninja. One is time consuming and the other is pretty expensive with the amount of solvent required.
I have recently trialed the HOST, but after cleaning a rug twice with the sponges, I then used a terry with pre-spray on which brought out a large quantity of dirt.
Comments would be appriciated

Why dont you wet clean them. We even use a hose on some of them. Water is not the problem it is the control of the water that counts.

Last week we were asked to clean a hand made, 100% wool rug that was predominantly white with a lot of coloured areas. There was a large number of oil spots and a patch of irn bru staining that we didnt think we could shift. So we took it offsite and pondered on the best way to clean it.
We spotted the oil with solvent, and sprayed the entire rug with MS, agitated it to within an inch of its life then HWE. >> it looked a bit better, but nowhere near clean. So we let it dry and evaluated our results :-[
We then proceeded to dry foam shampoo it with prochems fibre shampoo by making some foam in a bucket then working it with a sponge. It took about 12hrs to dry before we vacuumed it. >> The rug was clean and our client amazed.
Until this point, we had never even thought of dry foam shampooing anything, but it seems a pretty solid cleaning method. I was most impressed with the feel of the rug after cleaning. Each fibre felt much softer and the rug had a nice shine to it.
It is now my most favourite low moisture method as it beats wearing a respirator and slopping around bucket loads of chlorinated slovents.

Hi Graeme,
After dry cleaning curtains many moons ago with chlorinated hydrocarbons , I rapidly came to the conclusion that it was both ineffective and unpleasant.
My approach is to low water HWE these type of rugs using a 6 inch hand tool , obviously checking for colour run in the process.
Can't sat i've tried the foam shampoo method on rugs but I will !.
