Title: Maintaining / protecting a roof rack
Post by: Glen on January 04, 2012, 10:30:38 pm
Is it worth maintaining a roof rack? It's a Renault OEM fitted to a van and there are surface rust spots where ladders etc have been slid on/off.

Will it take a long time for the metal to corrode to the point of needing to be replaced?

Even if it was touched up with paint, I can't see a how it coulod be prevented from reoccurring.

years back i knew a guy who sandblasted and powder coated items for a living  .saw him do a few roofracks and they really looked lovely  . if i was having a roofrack done it would  be worth getting it sandblasted first so that the powder/paint gets  a very good grip

Why not get it galvanised?

There is no point painting the rack where the ladders slide on and off as the paint will soon wear awau
