Title: Van insurance.
Post by: Klean07 on December 31, 2011, 11:28:40 am
Just had my renewal from A-Plan which is £451 plus £94 for tools cover. I have been with them for one year but prior to that I was with Direct Line where I was paying approx £280 until they started asking silly questions about the "tank" in my van. (Anyone would think I'd got a machine gun in there the way they ask the questions lol) Anyway because of this they put my premium up by 50%!! Hence me going somewhere else!!

So my question is; Who do you use and at what price?
Thanks in advance.

Just had my renewal in from Commercial Vehicle Direct £445.77. I keep asking them about the tank in the back and they keep telling me a tank is not a modification as long as its within the weight limit for the van. Anybody who tells you otherwise is having you over apparantly. (thats what they say)

Yes but do you tell them its a "water" tank or just any old tank?

So long as they think its just a Chieftan tank you're okay ;0)

Sounds typical of an insurance company to be honest, always looking to up the policy.  I wonder if they would pay out should the tank crack and flood your van?

I suspect not, but trying to argue with insurance companies is very painful indeed  :(

I have given them all the details and they know all about water tanks in window cleaning vans. Its all I can do, I have made sure that its detailed in my notes so at least they can't say I din't tell them. Thats three times now I have told them.

I used to be a HGV driver and had my own tractor unit. Insurance for pulling a tanker was no different to pulling a curtainsider. I personally think that insurance companies that insist on higher premiums for having a water tank are ripping you off.

Think about it. Whats the difference between having a tank full of water or any other load of the same weight? If you have an accident they will both produce the same forward motion and momentum if not secured.
