The Porty/TM debate goes on. But as much as I love the set up I've got, I would certainly run a TM if I could.
-
;D
-
I know it's early days, but couldn't the 4 of you who have voted no so far just have humoured the TM boys? ;D
-
i think you could re jig this poll... how many TM would go back to running a porty ( if they could get their TM big bucks they have invested back?)... ;)
-
I know it is heresy for some but if I was given a T/M I would sell it to the highest bidder and I am not joking.
-
hi
i thought long and hard about this and no i wouldnt. I do believe they are quicker than a porty and in some case can get a better result.
however i can not escape the fact if i was so busy on carpets i was struggling to get them done with a porty
guess what i would get another porty!!
I dont care how fast the guys are on tm they cant beat being on two sites at the same time.

I do a lot of work in highrise apartments where a TM would just not be a viable option. Im also very happy with the results I get as are my customers so have need to upgrade at present.
-
Go on, admit it, you all want one ;D ;D
-
They sure do :D
-
I voted no.
Its not the money thats the problem. I'll soon be buying the new Airflex Storm, and with new/better wand, magma heater and silencer, it'll be very close to Prowler money.
For me its the fact that its going to be a total nightmare doing jobs in my city! There are so many friggin parking restrictions all over the place. Most streets are permit holder only's and the only "pay and display" spaces are across the road, at the end of the street! Plus i do alot of apartments.
There are a couple of truckmount operators in my city, i have no idea how they manage. Maybe they do bungalows only with drives.
I bet half those yes's are from TM guys! ;D

I dont want one ... as it means you have to have lots of websites :P ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

MOST TM OPERATORS have used or still own a porty
I dont think that MOST PORTY OWNERS have also owned a TM
So...

Fair point, but I think some people have very valid reasons NOT for wanting to own a TM. Maybe we should do a poll asking how many ex TM owners are out there or something similar... I know a few and know their reasons for going back to the porty.... :-X

I really feel left OUT what about porty V lm

same here

Do your own muck spreader poll........
;D ;D ;D
-
I would but that would probably be hijacked by TM owners
Just like yours has
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Do your own muck spreader poll........
no but my dad has 3 ;D
;D ;D ;D

TM? - Naaahhhh - I couldn't fit it in my fiat doblo!!!

A very good point!
Happy Christmas to you and the family..... :)

I think you have to know your customer before committing to any system.

Depends on the meaning of 'Would you run a TM if you could?'
I could get one if I wanted as the money is there if need be, yes I would like the power and instant heat but for a little bit more effort I still achieve the results that get my high checkatrade reports and even with LM if needed, so why spend out all that initial money plus the vastly higher running costs of a TM?
So I voted yes but only if someone was giving one away for the reason above.
-
Anyone who owns a TM and has forked out large amounts for it is going to defend it to the hilt, and probably rightly so, no one would admit such a purchase was wrong!!!!!
But seriously, I pick up bits and pieces throughout the year and think to myself how did I manage without them just because they make my life a little easier and I think that is probably what a TM is all about, making your life easier, but it is a very expensive piece of kit to just make life a bit easier.
Tony
I dont think I would want one if they gave it away, tieing up your two most expensive assets in one place does not look like a good business Idea to me, and if the TM owners say they still have a portable anyway the whole idea seems a bit pointless.
-
Some hilarious opinions!!! :)
Thanks Col, needed a good laugh tonight :D
-
I think that you are looking at your business as it is now but to move onto quicker cleaning with more jobs or bigger jobs then a TM is a greater benefit unless you pay for a helper which isn't in the original post title.

I think us TM AND Porty owners are being discriminated against here as we are being DENIED a vote and thereby have been cut out of the democratic process by a poll that excludes all the people in the industry with brains, good loocks and business savvy -I say it's not fair and demand the question be re-written. I'm not sure how it should be re-written but that's not the point. Oh sod, it I'm voting with my feet and buggering of to work with my Titan 875 portable truck mount. ;D ;D

I have re-worded your last comment for you Simon....
NOW it makes sense
;D ;D ;D

Simon.
Am I to believe that TMer's haven't cast their votes also, there will be a full investigation if they have, I will be very disappointed..... ;D

Does the Prowler count as a TM?
That's what I would buy before a TM.
A portable TM then if the van breaks down
your not totally snookered.
Although even with a porty if the van breaks
down I think a lot on here would struggle.
John
-
I've thought about a TM for many years and I keep coming up with the same answer. I can't afford to turn my van over to a dedicated carpet cleaning machine - I do too many other things to do that.
I'm aso of the oppinion that it 'aint how big the one you have is - it's how you use it that counts. ;D

You're far too honest... Just vote mate, I won't tell you off..... ;D ;D ;D
-
i'm not sure which one to click, never used a porty in me life. maybe i'd prefer a porty, certainly won't knock it till ive tried it.
whats the scores now, i'll be diplomatic and try and keep them even. ;D
-
There's times for each.
High rise flats , awkward access - porty.
Acres of commercial - TM.
I used LM for commercial most of the time so no argument.
And I've played about with the mechanics of TMs for other people and I would rather do a porty.

What I don't get with the whole TM / portable debate is how people tend to see them as something you reward yourself with years down the line, whereas in reality they cost peanuts, get through far more work more quickly, look the part and earn you a lot more money. A decent TM will do £100k plus per year so the cost of it really is peanuts. And from a customers perspective they look at their gleaming carpet and attribute the quality to the machine and so tend to stick with you because of that perception. I use the word 'perception' because we all know that in the right hands you can do an outstanding job with any porty, it might take you longer, but you can get there is the end.
Simon
Can I vote now, please? :'(

Oh go on then, seeing as it's Christmas.... ;D ;D ;D

Thanks, Santa,
I'm going to vote 'No' because you can run faster with a porty than you can with a TM in tow.
Does that help? ;D
Simon

I ran a porty for 2 years and then an opportunity came along to get a low hours mint condition small tm at around the price of a top end porty . Yes it comes with a downside there are a few jobs you cant do because of access etc but generally speaking they are jobs you prob wont want to do anyway.
but on the other hand there are more jobs i do that with the time constraints and electric and water issues that would be impossible to do with a porty.
one downside is when your van goes wrong you screwed. which i have found out a lot this year.
But at the end if the day if somebody told me i had to go back to filling buckets i would give up.
I am great believer in the fact that a good cc will always achieve good results with whatever they use but at a diff pace.
as for the fact that someone stated they would buy another porty and van and put another tech on the road and that would earn more than a tm he is prob rightin T/O but not the same amount of profit thats for sure. byt the time you have paid wages van etc .
as for the argument that tms cost a fortune to run its a bit like cars the flasher one you have the more it costs you mine averages £20 of petrol for every £1000 earned and its services cost me less than 150 every 6 months
-
william profit is key especially when skint call it being a customer relationships advisorory poll or crap for short ;D ;D ;D

I’m very diverse in what equipment I have to hand, the TM wins hands down every time subject to location (and I also work in all London post codes)
Am glad some one brought up profit all my equipment makes a profit some more than others, (things are about to change in the New Year a web site)

That's terrible, you haven't got a web site... Jeez! The money I've saved on advertising is amazing since getting a web site. I recently ran a special offer for 3 weeks in the local rag... NOT 1 CALL!
I can recommend someone... Just look at my website the link is on there. I get a lot of work from it so it MUST work...
I have a plan for the TM, the wife likes it too.... ;)
-
I have good money on Colin being the next porty man to go TM. He's flirting big time
-
Sell the kids Col you could get one then!
Actually Colin you aren't ready for a TM yet, you've just bought a Zeta and a Jag it may be Xmas but leave the boys toys until Santa comes next year.

Stopped all advertising when yellow pages split there books years ago. And have to agree with you, think it’s about time this old phoenix got into 21st century! And thanks for the offer, got someone working on it to blow my local competitors away hopefully :)
LM rules on the commercial front if you can get it ;) with very high profit the margin. :-X
Thanks rushe
Kick a man when his down re lez :P
