Title: broken light cover
Post by: billozz on December 12, 2011, 08:57:00 pm
recently i broke a cover on a customers outside light, i offered to replace it if i could find the same one or buy a new light if i couldnt. i tried to find a replacement cover but couldnt so went back to say i would replace the whole light, she told me that as the outside light were all the same make and moddel she expected me to replace all 3 and she had found, and ordered 3 from a local shop that she liked costing about £35 each, she also told me that she had an electrician coming to fit them for her and that she would be happy to accept cleans as payment, it looks like i could end up with a bill for about £200 for a broken light cover, the problem is i am not sure where i stand, i did break the cover but should i have to replace the other lights jsut because she wants them to match, i know what everyone will say, tell her to get knotted but i wondered if anyone had had a similar experience and how it worked out
thanks
Bill

I think she's every right to charge £200 worth of cleans.
Just put your price per clean up to £200, do the next clean for nowt, break the other two lights and call it quits.

If you end up stumping up for this, the two remaining lights are yours if you want them or if you want to try to sell them to get a bit of your money back.

My view is you broke it, she has the right to get it put right. Better to do it this way than she puts it through her insurance company and you start getting letter from them. But yes, tell her you want all the old lights, even the broken one. Otherwise the electrician will cart it all off.

Absolute nonsense - How old is the light? What is it's value? Anything beyond this is good will. Where did she buy the lights? If she can't remember then they are so old that they have very limited value.

We ain't talking ming vases here!

She should have given you the chance to rectify the problem before her getting her electrician to fix it, he's probaly bumping up the cost as he thinks your going to pay up.
