Title: Graffiti on Marble
Post by: Blast Away on December 08, 2011, 09:51:56 pm
Not an expert on names of stone etc but this I think maybe a marble. Maybe Kev could help with this one.

First time I've come across graf on this surface, it's always been 95% brick. Anyway, it wouldn't remove. It's soaked in.
Tried gels, liquids, shadow chasers, wet soda blasting.

Opinions please.

EDIT: Forgot to rotate the image before hosting. But suppose it doesn't matter.

Is it highly polished?

Did the wet blast dull the surface?

Looks like its marker pen? Depending how deep it's penetrated you could hone it/diamond grind it out but you would have to re-polish it. Or you might be able to polish it off.

Kev might be able to tell you if this'll work but I'd try the hone/polish option.

Won't be getting into polishing it or anything mate. It is marker pen and is polished but obviously weathering slightly and grimey. Building is about 9 years old. Soda hasn't dulled it no.

I'd be on the phone to the chemical manufacturers for their recommendation.

You could try Acetone but test a small out of sight area first.

That looks similar to one of my posts

http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/index.php?topic=134504.msg1149223#msg1149223

Homemade jumbo marker pen - I came across it on portland sandstone - solution for that - there wasnt one spoke to numerous graffiti chem suppliers sooo many chems, know prob grind or polish, the ones we came across had penetrated 10mm +.  :( portland stone is like a sponge - you guys mentioned soda blast didnt touch it.

Graffiti removal ltd suggested trace /ghost underneath tag work in sensitive graf remover ... removed trace a fraction customer accepted results. Chems cost around £100 min order.

One guy mentioned another chem could try that .... see my post last comment!

Just got back from Germany!  How big is the area with the graffiti on it that needs dealing with?

This one here Kev is approx 6 inch square then there's another one a little bit thicker lines, different kind of marker but covers 2 foot square.

You will need to let us all know how you get it off and what pens you used to put it there in the first place  ;D

I think due to the fact that it is such a small area I would be inclined to remove it with some hand diamonds combined with a high alkaline spray.

Do a test area first on a heavy bit trying with some progressive diamonds.  I would buy a set of 60,100.220, 400 and 800 grit they cost around £70 for the set including VAT but they are brilliant, quick to use and last for ages.

No mate, got paid for just turning up and attempting.  ;) Tried good stuff that I stock in van but like I've said, not come across this surface before.

Kev

Didn't try anything else as I've not been back. All attempts were done a couple of weeks ago. Been busy.
