I was recently introduced to a marketing consultant and was wondering if anyone has used one with any degree of success ?.
I am waiting for the guy to come back to me with a proposal and costings.
He made a good impression on our first meeting and said that whilst he will charge a small fee for any initial work he is quite happy to get paid on results but what this actually means in practice i will have to wait and see.

I went to see one years ago....This was HIS HEADLINE for my leaflet
"Shag Pile carpet Shagged"
needless to say I never used his services

That's almost as bad as when they use the word "Sexy" to describe a marketing strategy or something...
All I can say is, in the words of Jim Royle.... "Marketing Consultant, my a***!" ;D

Typical of a "consultant" who does not understand the fundamentals of copywriting (and I imagine, could not be bothered to put in the time to find out). The guy is an embarassment.

i use one for internet marketting, really happy with him, and he knows his carpet cleaning as he worked for one in his college years. he also built the whole of the tacca site.

Anyone use Carpet Cleaners and are they any good?
Get my point?
Who introduced him to you, someone who had good results? What you need is to ring him up and get half a dozen customers' numbers off him, ask them how much money they have made because of him.
Either he will, refuse/give an excuse or you will talk to people who have used him and find out for sure. Unless you get very enthusiastic responses forget it as people will tend to defend their decision even if not as wonderful as they had hoped.
Has he worked out how much a new client is worth to you? This is a key factor that anyone worth their salt would be doing for their own benefit as much as yours. Knowing your lead to conversion rate see if he could devise a campaign where he is paid per lead.

I would expect something like TACCA to have one... But for a one man band, is there really any need?
Mark at DP Designs knows what he's talking about, he's the nearest I get to a marketing consultant...

We used one years ago, he came up with our strap line
Were New Were Keen Try Us, we have never looked back since.

Were New Were Keen Try Us, we have never looked back since.
That could be updated:
"Now old, now apathetic, Try us"
Ah, the power of the apostrophe! ;D

i think the value of a marketing consultant is the idea of sitting down with someone who is impartial and can look at your business and give an independent point of view
its hard to find someone who knows about marketing and is willing to talk straight
