Post by: Easyclean Windows on December 07, 2005, 06:37:24 pm
Can someone who uses a merlin please advise when the membranes need to be changed.Do they need changing when the water going in reads above a certain tdi level and if so what is the level?

Thanks

I`ve had my merlin for 6 months and for the first couple of weeks the tds was 26,then it went to 28 and is still 28 ,iv`e read that the membranes are suppose to last 2-3 years  on average depending on your tap tds,Gaz

back flush........all you do is connect your water in,drainage and let your water in pipe run into the drain until your tdi is reading lower. If you take a reading as soon as you turn the water on it will read over 200 so you need to flush the membrane and filter for a couple of mins to get the tdi down.

Ive had mine for 10 months i have a tdi of 300 before merlin then 0014 going through

It has only gone up by 001 to 0015 not bad.

I just wondered when the membrane need changing.I know they say 2-3 years but the reading has to be a certain level ie 20?30?100?  not sure.

Try using a 10inch housing with water softener if your tds is above 250/300, membranes will last 2 years ok but def recommend water softener plus a small di unit after membranes - bought 2 for customers both getting 2000ltrs a day at 0tds and have been for 4 months now, tap water in the area is 350ppm or so.

i back flush my ro every 900 hundred litres (300 litre tank) this needs to be done on a regular basis other wise the impurities that build up can burn holes in the membrane, thats where you start getting high tds readings coming out of the ro. I backflush my water softning filter at the same time using granulated salt to re charge it.

If you have a water softener you shouldn't need to backflush it that often. How high is your tds from the tap??

tds from tap 150 ish. flushing this often i was informed that i could get  up to 4 years  out of the ro . its only a 10 min flush every 4 or five days. mainly to flush out the chlorine that eats away at the membrane. thats what i was told, if that sounds too good to be true i'd be interested to know what to expect,
cheers.
