Title: WARNING!!
Post by: russ_clark on December 06, 2011, 07:25:35 pm
Do not get complacent out there!
Did a job yesterday large domestic with 3 conservatories.
Lady of the manner wanted all 3 conny roofs done this time round ;D
Just finished the first and the largest roof and went back to check how it was drying
put my set of ladders against the side wall and climbed up a few rungs lent very slightly
to remove some small debris in the gutter and they went BIG TIME!
Ended up on the deck with both legs trapped. After a couple of mins of big pain I realised
I could move them both.Managed to get up and limp back to my truck.
Was feeling sick with the pain and sweating even though it was bloody freezing.
Had some cold water and sat in the passenger seat then fainted.
Awoke by the lady of the manor asking if I was OK she saw on her CCTV I had my legs out
of the motor and hadn't moved for a while!!
Scary to say the least.
I am nursing badly bruised shins and a very black big toe??
Yes I am wfp and only use ladders for access and conny roofs, etc
was trad  for a few years so not a novice
So the warning is be careful out there or you could
have a nice couple of plaster casts or worse!

Had a nasty fall last thursday no ladders involved. the owner had dug a hole out ready for the building inspector to come out and cofirm it was deep enough for a garage only about 3 foot square but quite deep . my left leg went down damaging all the ligaments, still working but really painful. So even wfp accidents can happen. maybe i should have gone trad.  :)

My son did a similar thing a few months ago. We were both doing a conny roof. I was at front working from step-ladders and he was working from the side off my ally ladders when all of a sudden he disappeared!! Crashed onto patio. Shook him up  it did. Bruised and grazed his arms and legs!!

Thanks for the warning reminder, I hope your feeling better soon mate.
As regards working from height, this can even include being on the ground as was the case with Pikeman (nasty that mate), the dreaded unexpected hole :o  causing the height danger. So keep your eyes peeled  ;D

Russ you're probably the only employer who ever cared about my safety when I was working for you (and that I respect you for), you made sure I used the rojak on the polished floor.

Hope you ok mate.

Sorry to hear... had similar in the past .. ladder slipped at side of con right in front of cust ... hurt like hell, its funny how you get up and put on brave face... felt a right muppet!   ;D ;D
Got back to the van jes the pain, legs went black n blue...

Lesson learnt... we now use platforms so much safer and makes cons so much easier .....worth the extra cost .
