Hi,
Have a potential customer who phoned me saying she has had a lava lamp explosion!!!!!!!! :o
I asked her if she knows what kind of carpet it is and she has no idea, i asked her what measures she has taken and she has scraped excess hot fluid of carpet and then hoovered and then used 1001 on it!! Any ideas on the best way i should approach this? (the earliest i can go is tomorrow morning and i have already told her there are no guarantees i can get it out!) :o

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquid_motion_lamp
as i thought , oils and wax seems to be the basis mixed in with water, the problem is likly to be the dyes contained with in.
hope the link helps

Hi Geoff, many thanks. Thought there was an extremly good possibility of dye's being used!! Ouch :'(

Sounds l9ke an insurance job mate, I wouldn't go out of my way for it unless I thought there was a good chance of creating a future customer out of it.

Cheers Jim........yeah, im not convinced it will come out but she is desperate for me to try........ ???

Well in that case make it clear that it is an "attempted" stain removal and give no guarantees. My concern would be that the oil content has gone right down through the carpet into the backing, underlay and maybe even the subfloor.
I would be bordering on the thought that it might not even be ethical to attempt, knowing this. I tell customers that if I don't consider the chances being any better than 50/50 I don't even recommend attempting it, but can provide an insurance report.
It is sometimes an in-road to further work but not always - you have to be a good judge to decide if it's worth your time and effort or not. I've gained many good paying customers from putting myself out to help them in these cases, but equally have made no money and had my time selfishly consumed for no further benefit to myself.
Your call :)

Yes, I do agree pretty much with Jim on this as I also think it will be much better to stay away of it if you don't have any idea to get rid of that but as she is insisting you to try at least once then you should convey it to her in a pretty clear way that there are just possibilities and she has to be ready for any ups and downs related to it. if She is ready for this deal then only you should go ahead with all your experience and as Jim told that such opportunities makes your customer base so it is going to be good either way for you.I hope that it will be a good experience for you if you will try it.
