Nah , newspaper is better.

You ought to go back over some of the oldest posts and look at what was said.

Customers will never ever pay to have some idiot clean their windows with a bog brush on a broom handle.

It doesn't actually matter what the customers think as long as they pay you. Sometimes we think far too deeply about things like this and get all anal about it.
MacDonalds sell rubbish food but its good enough to bring people through the door. Thats all they need, anything beyond that is wasted effort. Its not a failing on their part its a carefully worked out business strategy.

I suspect most of us do a far better job than we actually need to. Its nice to do a good job and take pride in your work. I couldn't do it any other way so I am a fine one to talk. There are some pretty naf window cleaners around but they probably make a better living than you do as they only spend half the time you do on a house. Who's the mug?

If you were to employ a smart ass business guru to advise you he would probably say something like this. Cut your standards, just do more and quicker. Accept you will lose a few but replace them with others that are not so fussy.

To an extent that is what you do when you go WFP. The thing is you have to RECOGNISE thats what you are doing and understand WHY you are doing it and what the long term game plan is. MONEY

i suppose the real old boys who were sammy the shammy
thought the same when these new fangled squeegees came
out,but things change jobs evolve and so does equipment.

i can trad but choose not to but lets not carried away here
the boys who cant,it wouldnt take them long to learn and
get to a reasonable speed its hardly plumbing or being a
electrician.

skill wise whatever method you use lets be honest
difficult it isnt.

thats why i do it, little effort small investment and good return ;D

I think all trad guys should be lined up in front of their families and shot. That would stop these pointless debates and prevent them falling off their ladders.

Using a squeegee is not a skill in any sense, it's just a knack. Hell I can do it with my feet if my hand's get cold enough and the window is not to high!!

Cleaning windows is a highly skilled job - after all you need an NVQ to do it. Lots of studying and exams at the end of it.
Don't think it applies to wfp though - any idiot can stick 100 feet of pole in the air and waggle it about with no qualifications at all.  :o

TRAD great for some work but its limited to less than 20% of my work now.advantages?there are certain windows that just dont come up good with wfp.usually perished rubber seals.also its easier for some work than dragging a hose around.handy for doorways and large plate glass windows esp if its an older customer on a cold day(not leaving water lying around that could freeze).disadvantages?its usually a bit slower not by much though if your a good tradder!

WFP IS KING FOR MOST WORK!!!it really is!!after 20 months wfp i can burn through my work much faster with less fatigue, earn more, safer and complete work to a better standard for time spent on the job.disadvantages?not many IMO.the odd snagging issues and small equipment problems but there usually easily rectified.the cost of equipment and van running costs are higher thats for sure but easily paid for by the increased earning power that having wfp gives you.

some of the jobs ive picked up this year i wouldnt attempt to clean off ladder.too risky, too slow and woudnt be able to hit some of the hourly rates i can earn these days.

regards

dazmond
