I've put my ETS vac through a lot lately and have noticed some rubbish getting stuck to the air inlet that leads to the motors. I don't use the filter much as it gets clogged quickly but I'm now wondering how much debris is making its way into the motors. The middle motor has started wheezing a bit and I'm thinking about maintenance.

Has anyone taken the motor housing apart to check/clean the motors? I don't want to do it if I can't get it back together easily.

Any advice?

no i havent, but i noticed ETS now sell replacement 1000w motors i think they are about £60+vat

does the central motor housing have it's own filter ?

That's a bit harsh Ed  :) I haven't had any problems with them.

Darran, the motor housing has a plastic grille where the air is drawn in. This is where the debris is gathering. It's leaves, clumps of moss, sludge etc, anything light. If it gets blocked then all suction is lost. I clear it out by hand every so often but as I said I'm worried about what might be going into the motors. The vac does have a filter but the person I originally spoke to said he didn't bother with it. It gets into a heck of a state on some jobs. 

Cleancare. Only had the vac 9 months and am hoping it doesn't need new motors yet  :)

Sounds the same as the Omnivac - but i'd have to take a looksie tomoz and double check.

altho debris does stick to the mesh the way stuff is sucked in and then diverted mean/looks like it gathers into the bottom and sides.

the 'cloth bag' filter is for dry use only ie.  internal dust cleans - either way it's not the best filter in the world.

i'm sure overall that the motors are ok.

bit harsh i kno ;D

called them several times to order spares and they never return calls .very odd .
they just dont want to sell spares or dont have any .

really ,call them yourself .it seems once the bigger sale is made thats it.
call them and see.and if you get anywhere let me know .
