Wanting to buy an estate for family use and for my new round.
It's a BMW 330i estate (2001)
I'm 27 years old with 3 years NBC. For some reason a lot of companies aren't quoting me because I want to use it for business use - window cleaning.
Anyway the best quote I have got is £1300 with an excess of £800 which is a joke. What I'm asking is does business use put a lot extra on the insurance?
Are there any specialists for me to try?

A Plan Insurance , never had a problem with any insurance company insuring me for social domestic and business use which is what you want. MIKE

A Plan is one of the companies that I have spoken to totoday. Unfortunately they wont insure me on this car with business use. They said its my age and lack of experience. Even though I have a Civic Type R at the moment, these insurance companies don't make sense. Looks like im going to have to stick to a two litre as the quotes are around £800 for a Bmw Touring 318i.

I don't think you will do yourself any favours turning up at customers house ina nice car, they don't like to think you are doing better than them.
Get a ratty old van for work and get on with the sympathy vote.

Tbh I can't afford to run two vehicles and my kids are getting to big for my Civic now so need a change soon. A smart estate seems a good bet for family and work purposes. Btw what's to be jealous of an old BMW estate it's not exactly a Ferrari is it!
I can't imagine myself driving a tatty fall apart estate anyway and within my price range the BMW is the only half decent looking thing.

Also IMO a smart looking vehicle will give a good impression to the customer than if I was driving something that's about to fall apart surely?

get a van m8!
have a car for you with your 3 years ncb
then get a van with autonet and they will mirror your ncb!

I never had a prob with my Volvo v40 estate, or my then 3 year old passat (superb car). not had prob with not looking the part, was more expected back then, but depends on sort of wrk you have I suppose too.
now I have a van I'm part of the van brigade! can't beat it for professionalism. but car served me proud, and saved me money if can't afford or don't need 2 cars, so if can't afford cheap van and can't get cheap enough deal then gonna have to go for lower insurance group car I'm afraid buddy.
how much that same car without business use? b interesting to compare.
never had problem with insurance myself, yet! but that was back in the day when you could sneeze while driving without your excess doubling. seems like they rip you off left right and center, then pull your pants down with the price and slap all sorts of exclusions on ya. it'll be "sorry sir, u listen to r and b, there's another 20 percent loading" when they start running out of excuses!

It is tempting to get a van but I need to change my car soon anyway, I need 3 seat belts in the back....
I will be doing a residential round part time in the new year, maybe see how it goes and get a van if things go well. Tbh I haven't actually looked at how much a half decent van is, tax, insurance etc.
ATM I'm paying £850 a year insurance and tax is £140 for 6 months for the civic.

£140 for six months thats more expensive than my L200 Trojan 2.5 . MIKE
