Title: One for the Internet Wizards
Post by: Simon Gerrard on November 23, 2011, 05:49:13 pm
We've re-installed a version of Windows Vista and since then when you search for something, say carpet cleaners in manchester, when you click on one of the results instead of going to that site it re-directs itself to best buy types of sites.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Simon

I'm getting this also I blame Google and e'bay for placing ad's without my permission. Where it's really peeing me off is when my location comes up on search engines and you get half a dozen others appearing all with " best deals " etc

Not seen that before Simon except with computers infected by a virus, just because it is a fresh install does not mean that all if any pre-existing viruses have been removed. I have seen infected computers that people have reinstalled windows on still to be infected by the same virus afterwards.

On another note I see gerrardscarpetcleaners.co.uk is being blocked as unsafe resulting in not being able to view it.

Simon,

It looks like you have a re-direct running in your browser.

Which browser are you using?

I HAVE had this problem in the past but I cannot remember which browser or how I got rid of it. If you have not got an answer by tomorrow I'll contact a friend who sorted mine out.

simon have you deleted all of your cookies and cache on whichever web browser you are using. also have a look at which plugins your web browser has installed. and disable the ones that you think may be affecting your search (or just disable all the plugin's)

Try a different browser and see if you still have the same issue.

internet explorer try this.
go to manage add-ons and disable some plugins that look a bit fishy or just dable them all one by one until the problem goes away then you'll fin out which one it is.

also firstly try.
go to safety. then delete browsing history including the cache and cookies.

failing that Simon i think your computer has a virus/spyware/malware the best program for getting rid of this by far
is malwarebytes ive posted a link to a free trial below i think you get 30 days i usually just use it  to remove the spyware then just uninstall the malwarebytes program.

Cnet is a very trusted website

Beat me to it...

http://www.malwarebytes.org/

Type it direct into your browser (some Spyware will not let you search for it!)

This is the free version so you can keep using it.

I had this after installing Zone Alarm, I'm sure its not a virus. Its a programme that that logs where you've been then sends you related deals. It does it by taking over your Home Page settings. Try Control Panel- Internet settings. If that has been changed find the prog name and delete it then change your Home Page settings.
