I'd been door knocking with reasonable success up untill a couple of weeks ago, does the take up usually drop off just before christmas or did i just pick a bad area? I went leaflet dropping tonight in the hope that potential customers may make contact in the new year.

Hi Chris
Its probably the latter. I guess you are getting the " I already have a good window cleaner" reply.
Some areas are well looked after by good window cleaners and they are hard going but don't give up. There is an old saying.. its this.. " The next door that you knock at might say yes"
Personally I think that leaflet dropping.. no.. I KNOW that it is a very unproductive way of spending your time as opposed to getting in front of the potential customer.
I got 37 new customers last week worth well over £500 per 4 weeks by knocking doors 4 evenings. This week so far in 3 evenings... 7 but I wont give up. I actually wet doorknocking between Xmas and New year last year and did very well indeed out of it.
I dont mind doorknocking.. I dont like it either. Its just that its by far the best method of getting new business so I do it.
Keep at it mate :)

Thanks Andrew i'll get out knocking again then, The area i was canvassing proberly has been well covered but i'd had a good take up rate on some of the streets then consistantly nothing, anyway thanks again, hope to be contacting you about your wfp system soon it really does look the business.

I,d back Andrew up on that one as well, we canvass all the time, as a company 'doorknockers'
We rareley have bad nights, but when we do, its either because as andrew said, its a very well looked after area.
Another reason could be that another company like ours has been round recently and therefore took a lot of 'meat' out of that particular zone, however no canvassing company can possibly catch everyone in, so you will still sign up here and there.
If a zone is awful with no sign ups in your first hour, move yourself to another part of the village town or city that usually does the trick!!

Very good point Mr Doorknocker ;D
It can even vary from street to street. I will give you an exanple. There is an estate near me divided by one big road. One side of the road.. couldnt go wrong! Other side... "I clean my own...I dont bother... already got one but he is pretty unreliable ( but he is cheap so I will stick with him" etc etc..
Another point here.. on the side that I did well on some other outfit had leafletted 2 or 3 days before I knocked the doors... Thank you "other company" you got them thinking about their window cleaning for me ;D
And thanks for the nice words about the system Chris.. it IS the business for domestic cleaning mate :)

Hiya Chris,
No, nowhere near worthing at the minute, areas being covered at present are st albans, Bury St Edmunds and Cambridge, all the best, stick with it, its very easy to give up at this time of year, but it,ll all be very worth it come the summer! :D

I agree with what has been said about canvassing BUT it is also true that people's interest in getting their windows cleaned drops off dramatically at this time of year. In the summer when its light and bright having clean windows shows up.
This time of year they get up in the dark, get home in the dark and the rest of the time its either raining or they are wondering how they are going to get through Christmas on the money they have available.
Windows are low on their priority list.

Thanks all for your thoughts on that, i havent been out door knocking again yet, though i did put out about 200 flyers friday and saturday eve mostly bungalows something I wouldnt usually target, I had 2 calls monday morning, one that I cleaned today, the other asking for a quote inside and out plus gutter and facia cleans 3 times a year and the same for next door, Though I know knocking does get better results i'd rather not have to do it on these dark eves, if i keep getting some success from flyers i`ll be happy.
