Mick,
This is a topic that came up on another forum recently. Someone advised to completely remove the stuff that's stuck in the tank lid - then what you do is get some high modulus silicone sealant and put a big bead of it round the top edges of the tank instead. Obviously would need a good old clean beforehand.
Apparently this lasts ages, much longer than keeping on replacing the normal seals. Reckon I'll give it a crack myself when mine gets a bit more ragged!

I followed John Rees' recommendation and went down the high modulus silicone route. Seems to do the trick. Only four weeks so far so can't say as to it's 'staying power - but will take John's word for it that it will outlast the standard seal.
-
The problem with this is... I use the system EVERYDAY, {7 days a week} so will overnite be enough time for the sealant to cure? How long did you leave it to cure?
-
Why not just buy a new seal and have done with it, they last for years.

Ah - that's where our business' differ. Only need to operate five and a half days a week. 36 hours curing was quite sufficient. If you're unfortunate enough to have to work 7 days a week - follow Simon's suggestion ;)

If I was working 7 days a week I'd be investing in a wheelchair not a tank seal :-\

That's cos of that bloody Groupon, that's why!
Was that a can of worms?

Mick, Elliot Cleaning (posted above) recently bought some of this stuff for a waste tank seal...

Don't know how well he got on with it, maybe he'd be good enough to report back

I'm sure these would do something close enough..

Email them picture.
As I get the feeling getting it from TM suppliers might be a tad pricey.

You're not wrong Craig!

That door trim stuff isn't really the right sort of thing though.

Yeah I don't think it's rubbery enough not sure if this is rubber or PVC, getting closer

EPDM is the correct material, because it is a closed cell structure so is water and air tight under compression. Apparently!

Helllo all,
I bought some of that magic wand seal to do my ace TM properly and it didn't last long,a couple of months tops. if you think its expensive wait until you see what they charge for postage!!!!I put the high modulus silicon on my old steamway equinox years ago and its still going strong now. ;D

got some closed cell foam 12mm thick off flea bay and works an absolute treat. I fixed it with some good strong double sided tape.
