discuss ;D

great idea far to many people put off posting for fear of humiliation by a fake person/user name, the more information shared the better carpet cleaners get, there for enhancing the reputation of the carpet cleaning industry

Hi Guys,
I shall post as myself now and not under Forum Admin - good point!
Just something a few people have said in the new section here: http://www.cleanitup.co.uk/smf/index.php?board=26.0
It's great to get your feedback and we are listening so thanks for the input.

If Simon logs off the 22000 could seriously get diminished

Hi Mitch, welcome to the forum :P
-
Well good luck with it Mitch.
I know it kicks off occasionally in the CC section as everyone believes they are right when in fact it's just me. ;D
But I'm sure you would get more advertising if it wasn't for the linch mob/thug and Nazi related threads in the general section. Who wants to be associated with that? God knows what members of the public think when they stumble upon it.
-
Same here mitch and it will be a better place if you had people with just there real names..
Derek you still aint named the wind up man ;)
-
stupid idea imo. i'm a member of many forums which i regularly check and this is the only one where it's an issue. by allowing freedom to "hide" you're allowing someone to give more honest advice without fear of it getting back to them later.
for instance say someone makes a thread about the biggest mistake they've made whilst carpet cleaning, atm we can freely post what honestly happened and hide if we feel we'd like to, but having your real name there would mean anyone who doesn't want to be known as the company who walked dog poo throughout the customers carpets and then couldn't get it up would just have to not post.
you get good and bad with everything but imo the good of having something to hide behind is better then the the good of having the real name, which can be faked any way
-
So you are not Adam

No Ian he is Kermit the green cleaning muppet ;D ;D

well this forum is so retarded. i knew there was plenty of members around that had brain issues but didn't realise it had spread to the mods too. i got a 2 day ban for having the same username i've had for ages, all because they decided to change the rules without making it known.
thought this thread was for discussing the idea not that it had actually been implemented given there is still members with fake names, but then on top of that how stupid a 2 day ban, not even just a quick message to say change your name please.
if i was an advertiser here i'd think twice knowing how ridiculous the mods are here, why pay money for the mods to ban users from even viewing the place because of a simple rule change that was poorly dealt with.
-
When did you get banned? You've been posting the last few dayd haven't you??
-
nope they banned me for last 2. guess you'll be next along with anyone else who isn't aware of the rule change.
-
This is my real name though! Although I am told it sounds like like a shade of Dulux paint..
-
"I'm calling myself Rodney..... after Dave"

no, this thread was to discuss the proper "avatars and real names" locked thread at the top of the carpet cleaning section. ;D ;D ;D
which is no longer there ;D ;D ;D

Kermit
Who is John-Paul Jackson??
me thinks you are making up names again
MODS ban the bugger forever ;D ;D ;D ;D

Whats wrong with using your real name and pic? i can't see one! imho!
-
there is nothing to hide behind if you have to use your real name. i want to post about something bad that happened? well i can't now as you'll all know who i am and so will my competition.
i've never minded which is why i've got my details in signature and website etc, but others may and anyone who suggest you HAVE to have you real name is showing disrespect for others privacy. this forum no longer respects members privacy. next we'll be having members address, sexual preference, etc so we can work out if a poster likes men and can ignore them as they aren't real men and therefore their opinion is of less value.
if you don't want privacy fine but others may. this forum is for sharing ideas, and allowing people to be anonymous with their ideas of course mean you'll get rubbish "fake" ideas, but at the same time you'll get better honest ideas, it's then your job to sift through them and use your brain to work out which are good and which aren't. i guess that's what it comes down to, if you can see a bad idea from a good one and are smart enough to work it out.
-
A ban on name-changing and multiple logins would be a better idea I think.
-
the whole real name issue is slightly misleading, I don't care if someone uses an alias as long as they are identifiable.... what we want to know is who we are talking to
its easy for me to tell you Alltec are a bunch of robbing crooks who shouldn't be in business and they misused my credit card and took money out of my account if you know who i am and i can be held in account for what I say.
but......... if I say this anonymously then it is wrong.
if i tell you that.... Prochems new portable is the best machine on the market. It is better than the Jaguar, alltec & Amtech machine put together ......... then it would help to know I don't work for Prochem and my opinion is not biased.
this is why we need to know who we are talking too, they we can make a better judgement call whether to believe what they say.

Firstly, you are a member of Cleantalk and registered under your real name, so that negates your first point.
Secondly, this is an open forum, if you want privacy join a closed forum.
Thirdly, your final paragraph is complete nonsense - I don't want to sift through "fake" information, I want to be able to trust the advice offered by knowledgable posters. As far as not being able to post about something "bad" that has happened, there is an easy solution - phone someone up directly for advice, that way you don't have to air your dirty linen on an open forum.
Last year, I was verbally abused on this forum during the launch of CLEAN by some big brave boy, who registered under a false name and then disappeared. You want to have a pop at me - fine - but grow a pair and use your real name then we can have a straightener.

On a serious note, I have been un-decided whether or not to post this or not over the last couple of days since the rule was mentioned.
When I started on here I was an employee with aspirations of working for myself. This was not a nice company, a company who went to incredible lengths to make me nervous at work or otherwise. They sent staff round to my house when I was off, they still send people to find me even now to see what I am doing and where I am, they still ring my landline in the middle of the night. I was spotted working at 5am in the middle of a town carrying my sebo, I bought this a month after I left as I got on so well with one when I worked for them, I had an email that week asking for me to return their sebo as I had stolen it, I had to send them a reciept to prove I had bought it. I left 3 months ago.
This was the tip of the iceberg, the list is unbelieveable and this was a national company.
Anyway to gain advice and knowledge I joined here under a fake name, not much good putting my real name, it would have been found.
I now work for myself, and although it felt good yesterday changing my screen name, there are always 2 sides to a story. Not always clean cut.
Dont want to ruffle any feathers but thats just my experience.

When me and Glynn took over Truckmounters the first thing we did was make everyone display their real name and a passport size photo of themselves because we believed that professional people don't conduct conversations with each other with a paper bag over their head. I think we were the first forum to do it and initially it did cost us some members who weren't prepared to do it. The problem CIU has got is it is a business that relies on advertising revenues to make money. The advertisers want exposure to as many people as possible and so the forum owners can't adopt any policy that may cost them members and so will never persue any change that the members actually want because we aren't important in a financial sense.
Simon
-
advertiser want to get rid of the anonymous members more than the admin do, what stops them advertising or re-advertising is anonymous members who can slag of their products without fear of any consequences.
its in the advertisers interest for ciu to get members to be identifiable.
-
Mike,
If that is the case why don't they address the issue?
Simon
-
I think thats what they are in the process of doing.... but they are hoping that members will voluntarily change their details.

a bit like me hoping i'll win the lottery tonight.
without a ticket ;D

Hi Guys
There is definitely a desire to get rid of the silly names and my advise would be to change to something identifiable, either your own name or company with your own name in your signature.
No doubt there will be a few who will have to be dragged into this 'brave new world' but I think most will see it as a good move.
Cheers
Doug
-
Then rest of us could ignore the people with false / silly names until they come out from having a paper bag over their heads and show their face!
Simon
-
You can't ignore me Simon ...................................
You know me
;D ;D ;D
-
who said that????? ;D

Steve Barnett: i haven't got a clue what you're getting at. i clearly said it wasn't an issue for me (obviously else how else would you have identified me as a member of cleantalk) but it could easily be a concern for some, as has been proven by a poster in this thead
you say it's open but in fact it's not., it's closed. you first have to sign up to even read the forum, but also you now HAVE to have your real name. this place is the definition of a closed forum. an open one doesn't mind if you have a different name.
mike: what you've said about being accountable makes sense, but imo it's the wrong way of seeing it. imo people should be allowed to freely give opinions on companies without worrying about them knowing for sure who said it. i want to be able to say the service i got from xxx was less then good, or that the company i've worked for in the past has been terrible with payments etc, but if they knew it was me then i may lose the opportunity for future work
members on here obviously have an issue with people posting hiding behind a username and disappearing. the simple solution which is what i do in every day life is ignore it until there is something to back it up. you still have this issue. i could make another account under the name Eddie Edward from Simpleclean and then slag of a company and run. now it'll be listened to because i've used a recognisable name?
-

I don't get this part of your post Adam.
As Mike said, I would respect someone posting under their real name and telling me that they received bad service from XYZ supplier, far more than a false name slagging off XYZ because he has an axe to grind.
Why would you worry about a bad payer seeing something you have written about them, who would want to carry out future work for a bad payer ?
In my experience, and with a few notable exceptions, most of the false names that appear on this forum are out to cause trouble without fear of identification - we have quite a few in the last 6 months, including the guy who used every opportunity to slag off Derek and TACCA.
-
You can't ignore me Simon ...................................
You know me
Did someone say something? ;D
;D ;D ;D
-
be able to say the service i got from xxx was less then good, or that the company i've worked for in the past has been terrible with payments etc, but if they knew it was me then i may lose the opportunity for future work
so you want to slag them off anonymously on the Internet but still take money from them......, wouldn't a better solution be to grow some balls and rather than hide behind an alias and harm their business (which is what you are doing) confront them about their terrible payment system.
anonymity is the hiding place of cowards and cyber- bullies we can all come up with a reason to not be named but I've yet to hear one that holds water
-
I agree with Steve. That's a pretty flimsy excuse for being a faceless wonder.
I notice when new members join some of the established members are reluctant to converse with them until they have filled in their profile. Could we simply extend that to not conversing with people with false names / identities and thereby force people to be respectful enough of his fellow members to reveal his name and speak face-to-face as a gentlemen should?
Simon
-
Hmmmmmmmmm
methinks a rethink
-
however ..............
we has speaked face to face Simon
;D ;D ;D ;D

But you're a nice guy and have no reason to hide who you really are. Why not come out into the open. Go on, you know you want to!! ;)
-
steve barnett: the way i see it is before you had the option. you could post under a real name or a fake one. then members could decide which users they listened to more.
before you had
1. real users with real names posting real info (those who are open and don't mind)
2. real users with fake names posting real info (those who want to post honest advice but don't want to get caught)
3. fake users with fake names posting fake info (those who are out to slag off at any opportunity)
now you have
1. real users with real names posting real info
2. fake users with fake names posting fake info
and the the reason you've got rid of second one is to stop fake posting, but this will continue any way because nothing will stop someone signing up with a fake name and company
this forum is getting more closed off to stop the rubbish, but instead risks losing some of the good whilst the rubbish can still continue.
say i did work for you steve every couple months you'd send a big job my way but were such a horrible person about it and would be a rubbish payer/lier etc but it was worth it just about as the money was eventually coming and it was some money in an empty week. if someone comes on here and asks what it's like to work with steve from carpet care plus, if i was to then post although money is good he's an arse hole, hate the guy, get ready to deal with an ignorant ****, you'd see that and most likely stop working with me. so i'd not post that advice, which means the person who asked the question wouldn't get the honest advice they want, you'd never see it and think crickey didn't realise one of the hundred companies i work with thinks that about me maybe i should have a look at myself and do something to fix it etc.
of course all that is just made up i've never worked with you before but you get the point.
-
Why you got a picture of Gary J as your avtar Kermit ??
-
the same reason you got a picture of yo mumma.
-

To answer your question, you could simply contact the person requesting this information privately, rather than posting it on a forum - but thanks for taking the opportunity to use my name in your example :(
-
Another idea.
How about getting members to add thier real name in the signiture bar or in the profile??
-
just so you know carpet dawg, they are giving 2 day bans if you don't have your real name. you'd think they'd tell you first but nope straight to a 2 day ban so may want to get on and change it.
