Title: rug doctor
Post by: john sliman on November 14, 2011, 07:43:03 pm
out in one of the local villages today and going into the post office noticed 2 x A4 flyers promoting the hire of a rug doctor not from the post office but from the local miners welfare charging £15 for a days hire. Anyone else come across these being offered for hire from places other than the normal ie supermarkets, diy stores.

No... But I once I offered the local carpet shop owner my services and offered him a good cut too (%) on every job I gained through him... He said "We deal with it ourselves, we rent Rug Doctors out...!"

I can't repeat what I said, but in no uncertain terms I pointed out that he was a cowboy letting people loose on their expensive carpets with such a pile of crap... He said "Yes, but they usually end up replacing them, which is what I want...." :o

I must say though, he made a very valid point ;D

Sometimes you have to look at the bigger picture like he has.
Not that I advocate it or even practice it, but wouldn't it make sense to leave carpets in a certain ph condition that re-soil sooner than 12 months?
It's all very well leaving carpets perfectly neutral or slightly acidic, and for good measure protect them too, but how much repeat business does that generate?

My local carpet shop has a love/hate relationship with me.

His clients come in and say, "We've spilt X on the carpet. How do we get it out?"

He replies, "No idea. Phone Doctor Carpet-he can get anything out" (No pressure there then :o)

I invariably get it out, gain a new client and everybody is happy.

I've got more work now and in the future, the client is happy as the stain is disappeared....

the carpet shop is happy because they have given professional advice which has proved to be true/ the carpet shop is unhappy because they have lost the sale of a replacement carpet (delete as appropriate.)
