Vehicle One

Doblo with a 400L - perfect one man set up.

Vehicle Two

Pug 406 Estate pulling a trailer with a 200L tank and up to two 25L barrels. (Although I can put half a dozen barrels in the pug if needed.)

(What an empire I am building!) ;D

Unless you must have a 4 x 4 Vankpanzer for male member extension purposes then don't - the 200L tank I got was from a guy with a Mitsubishi Warrior who swapped it for a Fiat Ducato and put a 500L tank in it.

L200 Trojan new shape  double cab,   I have a 400 ltr flat tank in load area along with a streambox pump and battery box .  I have a Alpha trux fullbox  tonneau cover on back which is lockable and  alarmed ,    but i have to disconnect hose reel and place in cab along with pole as i did not want a canopy on the back

Fantastic motor totally love it 1 ton payload even when fully loaded it moves like there is hardly any weight in the back works really well for me and my wife as we live out in the sticks .  MIKE

1st - VW Sharan 2.0 petrol - 10x 25L drums & backpack
2nd - Pegeuot Expert 1.9td - 400L upright
3rd (and current) - Pegeuot Bpxer 2.2 hdi - 400L flat

Out of the 3 above, the Expert was the best and i would have another. I do however fancy a Land Rover Defender 90 with a 500L tank (which would need to be custom made though)

Cheers all... Some great bits of kit out there.

M & M.

I am wanting a mitubisi l200 prob 3.5k 2002 or so.
I have heard mixed reviews. I will be working from mine.
What size tank can go in?
Can you get hose reel, poles etc in?
What is the mpg?
can you work comfortably from them?

Thanks mate

I like the idea of an Expert/Boxer (or Citroen/Fiat equivs) - why did you prefer the expert to the boxer?

Post by: Blue Frog Systems on November 13, 2011, 01:01:58 pm
Gold - i prefer the expert over the boxer but that is because the boxer is alot bigger than the expert.

1 man set up - expert

2 man set up - boxer (has a 1T+ payload i think which would be handy for the extra man)

53 plate L200 25 mpg mate had a 53 plate which had probs to the point he got rid but he might have been unlucky ,     The L200 is the best pickup it has been voted best pickup 15 yrs out of 18 yrs in the what van awards ,  you should get a 400 litre flat tank in no probs but if you get a canopy on the back you could put a bigger upright tank in the back  ,   MIKE

I have had a look  at some online and it looks like the wheel archs are in the way to have the tank tight to bulk head , is this the case?

Thanks

Daz, get your glow plugs changed. They are probably a bit tired. Changed mine a few weeks ago after the first cold snap when my van wouldn't start and now it starts on the button.

Sorry for the late reply mate wheel arches in load area just reduces the width of the load area  just as in a van,         You can fit  the tank up to the bulk head  ,  And yes the canopy is a fibreglass top not perspex ,   But you can get different ones most of them are not that secure but i have a magnetic switch fitted on my tonneau cover  which is wired into fitted  the  thatcham cat 1 alarm .

Got it fitted by local autoelectrican for £60:00,   MIKE

I really fancied getting a warrior twin cab pickup for the windows, the warrior was good though I think the navara was slighly more up market with some of its features and had more space in the back seats and in the load section.

However, i was put off my 2 things, the reliability problems that pickups, particularly the navara, seemes to be plagued with, and the extrememly poor economy that they have too.

So i bought a VW caddy van, getting between 40-50mpg, looks smart, and can just about get what I need in.  An Expert/despatch etc would have been nice, with the 3 seats up front and the bigger load space/weight carrying ability, but have heard such bad reviews with reliability etc that I passed up on it, doing about 20k a year and want something that I know will start first time, every time.

Good luck mr smudge!

the L200 warrior is the more high spec of the L200 pickups , My Trojan is the entry level model with the smallest load area of the models but works well for work and lesuire.  MIKE

Has your L200 behaved itself?
I only ask as they seem to fall into two camps:

1. 100,000 miles and on it's 3rd engine or 2. 200,000 miles and never had anything go wrong with it?

Been running an 02 plate 2.0 hdi expert for nearly two years now with no problems yet! in fact the only money ive spent on it (apart from the usual) was £100 or so upgrading the suspension.

My  has only done about 16000 miles just over 1 year old mate,   All vehicles have probs at times had a 57 plate suzuki grand vitara before and spent £2500 in less than 9 months and was looking at spending another £2000 on it after major work so got a L200 as i know they are built to last ,  MIKE
