anyone hired commision based salesmen ? if so was this method successful or did it fail ?
I can't see any loss in it if they are 100% commission based salesmen
any feedback is welcome

in order for it to be worthwhile for the salesman you would have to work for peanuts, or would you pay the salesman for the first job only (if they were ongoing) or a percentage of everything that you do? I think the logistics of it all would be very time consuming whereas if it was a product a percentage of the final sale price is easy to work out.
I suspect you would have trouble recruiting?

Keep meaning to ask my mate to do some for me
part time.
In his spare time he used to go knocking on doors
trying to get people to sign up to make monthly
payments to certain charities.
He got commission for every one that signed up
and he made a fortune.
Some people are just good that way but not me.
I get embarrassed pushing ad postcards through
people's doors when they're in.

From experience, I guess you'd struggle to pay them enough. A decent salesman can earn £30k a year, a good one over £50k (not to mention perks like company cars, pensions, etc).
I don't know how you would make it attractive enough to get someone who would make a significant difference to your sales (unless your not talking about them selling your carpet cleaning services?).
The window cleaners use canvassers, and I think they pay them the equivalent of the value of the first clean - but of course this is recouped from ongoing custom. Also, its much lower value and quicker to talk someone round to having their windows cleaned as opposed to their carpets.

Suppose there are problems that can arise on
both sides.
You could say pay him every time he gets lead
to call you........you then say that person never
phoned.......or he could tell the person to phone
anyway even though they don't want anything
just to get his money.
Seems a bit fraught with problems.

commision based only... so everytime the get a you a job say £100 they get say 30% so £30
just wondering if anyone does this... there alot of unemployed ppl at the moment

i was once approached by a chap that does this he wanted to find and book the work and take 50% of each job but would go down to 40%. i told him i could only do it if he could get jobs that where priced at over35% more than i was charging but he said he couldnt do it.he did have plenty of proof he could get jobs at my usual price but i couldnt take the big cut . ;)

I cant see any negatives with it... at 30% it is cheaper than my ad return

Bear in mind that this person is going to be a first point of contact between you and potential customers. I'm guessing you want someone smart, who's not going to tuck you or the customers up, while making you and themselves enough money to make it worthwhile?
How much do you anticipate them bringing in per month, if they spend say 6 hours a day canvassing?
As far as lots of people being unemployed, I can assure you that there are very very few GOOD salespeople on the dole!

I know what you mean but carpet cleaning isnt rocket science and when someone is interested they usually buy in to it
