Title: think im too slow!
Post by: santino on November 04, 2011, 02:11:28 pm
Hi everyone!

Like above I think I should be faster, I'm taking around 25mins for a 3 bed semi with bay windows on front upstairs and downstairs. That's 25 mins for the whole house.

Any tips to help me get faster?

Cheers,
Santino

For a regular clean, you need just cover the glass once, and rinse once.

No more than 15 seconds per average window (maybe; I'm just guessing); just quick.

Try doing your own house really quickly, and see how good the results are; that'll give you the confidence to do it on your customers.

I probably can clean my 3 bed semi in about five minutes from first touch of the glass with the brush; though I take longer on customers.

Hi Santino,

It's hard to say how long a property should take, a lot can depend on the access, style of window, type of frame material, frequency of cleans, local conditions causing the dirt etc.

For a similar house, I'm guessing I would be charging around £12 to £13 - more if there's french doors, patio doors, conservatories or porches.

So even at £12 you would comfortably do two an hour.  Try to get into a routine on every clean and every window - particularly on the maintenance cleans.  Hose out to the furthest point and work back. - If you could shave 5 minutes of your present time - you could do 3 an hour - happy days - just don't cut corners.

Good luck, Dave

If there are no access issues, I would agree that 25 mins is a bit long.  OK time for a thorough first clean though.
Mind you, how long is a piece of string.  25 mins early in the day - too long.  25 mins at back end of the day if you're feeling knackered and not really up for it - probably acceptable.

That's some really good advice. guys. I reckon working form my trolley is slowing me down too! Hoping to upgrade to a DIY van mount. :)

Yup trolley will slow you down.

I've used trolley/backpack/trailer and van.

Van and or trailer are the quickest by far - van usually best for parking issues - the other two are for "special jobs" IMO.

i would have thought 10 min is more like my own time.  a big thing for me speeding up was just doing everything that i do a lot faster.  i had a deadline of completing a full days work in 4 hrs and actually managed it...  from then on i realised that i just needed to move faster in everything that i do, time on the glass and off it, where i park etc etc

Just be really methodical in what you do fella - I.e make sure you are never doubling back on yourself on your round, always think about your parking, make sure you have the proper tools for the job (not chopping and changing/back and forth to the van) .
Practice on your own house and give friends/family discounted/free cleans just so you can try different methods  :) :)
