Title: B***dy advertisment salesmen
Post by: domestic bliss on November 22, 2005, 09:03:19 pm
 >:(Today i had the misfortune of having the most rudest salesmen trying to sell me advertising in the world.  I shall not mention the company but lets just say he didn't get any business from me.
My husband is angry and i have had to stop him from phoning this guy up and giving him a gobful,  The guy made judgements about my business that he had no right to do.
i just cannot believe the cheek of the guy.
Right rant over. :o

Denise, if what you are saying is true then you cannot be 'done' for anything. Name them just to warn  us, I would.

I was dumb enough to advertise with matchingcars.com, £80 straight down the drain, they were exposed on a tv programme a week later. They are still trading!!!

The website name is cleaners local/city local.
Unfortunately i was daft enough to fill in my details for a free listing.
Expecting that to be the end of it.  How wrong i was!
and because i have been busy and have already been contacted by one of his agents.  i did not return his 4 calls.  He became dam right insulting on my answerphone.

I think I had a calll from them this morning! Although it was a lady, not a guy.

Similar spiel to U******.COM ie everybody who googles for a cleaner will be ringing you up to chuck money at you etc

It was a brief conversation!

yes i've been getting the 'your business has been selected as a leading company in your area' type routine and yesterday was the worst ever infact i usually cut them dead but i thought i'd just see how far he would go. the answer is on for ever' there was absolutely no way he was going to concede that i did not want their service. it went something like this.

 no thankyou i'm not interested
but i haven't finished
yes  i know but i'm not interested in your service
we do not offer a service
well i'm not interested
but just let me tell you...
look i'm really not interesded i get calls like this all the time and i know what you are doing
we are working on behalf of a select number of high quality companies in your area and you have been selected...
but you don't know anything about me or my company.
etc...

I eventually got fed up and hung up

5 seconds later  he rang back . why had i hung up ?

****************************** !!!!!!!!!

Now i do cold calling myself but surely to God some one has  to have trained these people not to try to bully prospective clients. i would never deal with such people if they were giving their services for  free

Regards all
Ged

I registered with tps and its madde no difference to the amount of calls I've received but it does get rid of them if you tell them you're TPS registered and ask for there details to report them, they can't get off the phone quick enough. Most of these companies operate by using either Yellow Pages or Yell online and are mostly small outfits or people working from home, they do know about TPS though and the fines they can impose.

My biggest caller problem are the Americans who claim to be from Wall St Investment Banks, they are outside TPS Jurisdiction and the only way to get rid of them is to hang up.

I sometimes can't help myself I have to have a laugh at these sales peoples expense.

Sometimes when I get sales calls at work I just say 'can you hold the line a moment please' then put them on mute!  Some hang around for ages but funnily enough not one has rang back to say they were cut off!  I've also asked them to hold while I get the correct person and then reanswer the phone in a really silly voice and answer 'duno' to everything they say, they soon go. At home I amused myself by taking a double glazing sales call and saying I am only interested in talking to them if they can sell me a garden gnome or some bedding plants, they get really confused and I get a good laugh!

Like you lot sometimes I get really racked off with it and just say no very firmly.  It's the faxes that annoy me more as they are costing me money in paper and ink!

How about telling them they're through to the wrong department and tell them you are putting them through the hanging-up department.  Haven't tried it yet, just waiting for the opportunity. ;D

I think everyone suffers from these types of calls but the TPS registration is certainly the thing to do first.

I don't know if such a thing exists but if it was possible to get a premium rate number set up for no cost I'd be tempted to get one, forward it to our normal phone number and then tell all these advertising companies that they had to call it to speak to the person that dealt with that sort of thing. That way, I'd be happy to hear their offer on the basis that I'd be earning £1 a minute doing so!

Thinking about it, we could also tell our suppliers that's the number they need to chase payments and it could also become our customer complaint line............... ;)

Regards

Mike

As well as the TPS there's the FPS for faxes, there is a link on the TPS web site.  This definitely works.  I was having three or four marketing faxes a day and they've stopped since I registered. :)

I've got a car for sale in our local paper, I've had 5 calls this morning from other advertisers, I managed to keep them hanging on so long between them the battery ran out on the mobile ( I only left my mobie number ;D). Hope it cost em a fortune.

I also got the full sales speil from ufindus a couple of days ago, I can't remember most of it because I was playing minesweeper and even put a cd on after a few minuites, they promised the earth and couldn't understand why I wasn't interested, the girl even asked me if she thought she had an honest voice!!! I said no, which raised even more questions from her. I must have said "I'm not interested" over 5 times but still she went on and on.

phones recharged now, waiting for more sales people  or maybe even a buyer!!!
