Has anyone fitted a 27" Immersion heater in an upright tank? I got a 27" for my 650L upright thinking I could fit it from th back so it's mounted horizontally, but it's too long, the only way I can possibly fit it is near the bottom through the side, but it will need to go below the baffle, so there isn't much room to play with, and getting the hole in the right place will be critical otherwise the immersion heater will foul on the baffle, anyone got any tips?
I know I could get an 11", but would really like the 27" as im sure it will heat the water more evenly.

You can miss the baffle easy enough by measuring & marking the tank. You would need to lower the male part of the flange in from the top on a piece of string/wire then pull it though the hole you've drilled out in the side. Once you've done that then you just screw the female part on from the outside & it's done. ;)

put it about an inch from btm and it should be ok, this is where i have mine on a 400 upright

Mac, I've just looked at your pics on matts forum and that is the way you have yours mounted. I thought you had it going the other way ;D

I have one of this in one of my tanks,
I dont use it to heat the water as it takes hours to get to a decent temp and reduces heat far to quickly in the winter, buy your self a fog wash for instant heat, and leave the immersion in the tank on a stat over the winter to stop your tank from freezing.

How big a tank? Is it insulated?
