what would you do if you agree to but a van off someone on friday but wasnt paying for it till wednesday, as was waiting for the cash to clear, and then they go and stick it on ebay, after you thought you had a done deal, even spoke to the guy today to say will have the cash wednesday morning, then i just find it on ebay tonight
would you still get van or look else where
-
Look elsewhere.
The bloke cannot be trusted.
I tend to go with a gut feeling in these situations.
-
Unless you have made a down payment on the van he has every right to advertise it.
You may have agreed a price but have not committed to the buy. From his perspective you may be another messer.
Sorry not what you wanted to hear

I would have agreed to leave a small deposit with a reciept then made it a condition that it was to be removed from the market

had shaken on it, and agreed to pay the asking price, as was happy with it, just had to wait till wednesday for the cash, as only had 600 on friday and get a other 650 on tuesday, might just keep the cash and look for a new van and do some more saving up
-
Buy another van definitely not to be trusted
-
personally i think you are probably messing him about.he is probably covering his back by making sure people know it is still for sale as he doesn't know you will turn up with the readies.
If you had been serious about it you would have left a deposit.
what happens if something happens and you dont get the cash, then the bloke has to try and sell all over again.if you want the van then it wont make any differance if he has it up elsewhere or not, when you get the cash just buy it.... ???
-
i would have put 50 quid down as a deposit. got a signed receipt and if he happily wrote the receipt id know it was a done-deal.
-
see what happens, aint going up with the cash till wednesday, see if its higher than what i am willing top pay, if it is look for something else
-
you might get it cheaper in the ebay auction
-
If you didn't leave a deposit then he has every right to continue to sell - been caught in the past by people
wanting to buy something, but having no cash until next week - when next week arrives they have 'changed their mind' usually beacause they still have no money.
you are only a serious buyer if your leaving some hard earned dosh - allbeit £50

I would go along with saying that you should have left a deposit as a sign of good faith. A small one would be enough.
I once shook on a deal when selling a van. Never heard from him again. I had to buy another week's advertising and another week's insurance for it. It cost me. A small deposit would have covered that expense.
-
Handshakes mean nothing, how on earth does this guy know you will be back on Weds? He doesn't. What if you get offered a bargain for £500, going to turn it down so you can buy this chaps van? Ok you might phone him up and tell him you dont need it anymore but that wont sell his van for him would it? He may well of already had a dozen people round who all said I'll be back in the week to buy it and thats the last he's seen or heard from them. Fact is if you leave a deposit fair enough he should honour any agreement but if you didn't then its his van and he can do what he wants
-
like i said going to leave it till wednesday if he still got it great, if not then never mind,
-
why wont you leave a deposit if you want it ??? ??? ??? ???
-
Why dont you ask him?
-
i didnt leave a deposit as bloke wanted all the cash in one go, wouldn take one in case some one tuned up with the cash and wanted to drive it away
-
May be he had a pre set date on eBay ! , why not ring & ask the question , 8)
-
like i said am going to leave it till wednesday then go down with cash, if still got it great, if not never mind, for all i know the bloke might have had someone else say i will be back monday with the cash
-
if I was out buyin a van it would be cash on the nail. Same if I was sellin one.

Confuzed ??? :-\

why u confused
i agreed to buy it on fri he wouldnt take a deposit wanted all the cash in one go, for all i kow he wouldnt take a deposit as someone else might of been coming back over the weekend to buy it, they didnt turn up so decided to stick it on ebay, i told him again on sunday i would be around wednesday then noticed it on ebay sunday night, the bloke just might be keeping his options open
i missed out on a van the other week, as seen it as driving past had a look said i will go get cash and come back, in the time it took me to go home and go back someone turned up and bought the van
-
popey, if you get it,put up a photo of it on here ,so the thread has a conclusion ok
-
Sorry wrong quote...
i didnt leave a deposit as bloke wanted all the cash in one go, wouldn take one in case some one tuned up with the cash and wanted to drive it away
Your original post implyed that you had agreed to buy the van and shook on the deal - the above quote tells a different story..
ie.. the van is yours when you have the cash and no - one else has brought it.
If it's still available on Wed. and you have the cash then i'd be offering less cash for it.

sorry smudge, as far as i was concerened it was mine, just after reading a few threads and having a think, diferent things spring to mind, see what happens wed night
