I just do a few stretches and basic yoga.get your missus to give you a massage as well.all helps.

Cod liver oil capsules and glucosamine taken everyday.

Work hard but don't hammer the poling 6 days a week.break it up with a bit of trad.

Take a day off here and there. a full week if finances allow!

Thanks Dazmond, for your help............................

Gary.

Pole work is not hard, but it is repetitive, and will eventually wear joints out as the years go by...

the question about exercise was not so i can do pole work (which is easy  ::))

But to keep the stiff neck and shoulders at bay. which i am starting to get.

i was being honest i dont get any aches and pains,i spent
17 yrs manually hauling 4 -500kg barrels of lifting chain and
hauling anchor chain about for ships.

ive always been strong through my back and shoulders so poling
no problems,i had more problems when i was doing lots
of ladder work where i tore a couple of calf muscles.

if i was to give a serious answer i would suggest regular
workouts to your core muscles, especially lower upper back
and a vitamin supplement to your diet to keep your joints
supple(especially if you are getting on a bit).

or get a lighter pole which everybody thinks is the answer
to everyones problems, but like anything physically your
body soon re adjusts muscle wise to what you are doing.

any better! :)

wear and tear happens unfortunately but some of it
can be avoided,i imagine you will have to rexamine how you use  your
pole, are you over extending constantly locking joints out.

90% of my work my muscles take more of the strain than
my joints, difficult for me to explain,im right handed so this
elbow doesnt move past my body and my left elbow rarely
goes above my chest, i also tend to move my feet alot
when i clean a window i tend to step back and forth almost
a rocking motion ,my whole body takes the impact of the movement
my elbow and shoulder joints are rarely ever  over extended

this is a natural movement for me,probably comes from those years of having
to use body strength to move barrels of chain but hey i dont get any shoulder
or elbow joint pain.

got day off was bored so went out for half hour to examine
how i work.

what a sad life i lead! ;D

I have been at wfp a long time now, i do what you do gary, ..exactly.... but my neck still aches, sometimes my shoulders too,

I think i need some form of good stretching exercises.

I dont finnd the work hard in any shape or form,

Until i go to bed lol.... then i ache, so lack of fitness , considering not many people responding with aches etc.

sounds like some of the muscle groups in your neck and
shoulders could do with strengthening, plenty of experts
in this field to give you advice.

most of us have unbalanced core muscle groups can be
corrected easily by a experienced fitness instructor.

saying that its never worked on my string like legs ;D

Lol

Legs are the hardest to build muscles on in the gymm,

Thats why it looks real funny when you see a beast of a gymm bunny, on the beach... with spider legs ha ha. ;D
