Not wishing to hijack the threa, but does anyone have experience of a Nilco 1207?
I've bought one cheap on auction, I bid really low not expecting to win, but it's over an hours drive to pick it up - just wondering if it's worth it?

Mike, for sheer performance on a flat carpet, the Royal beats the sebo into a cocked hat. However the drawback is, it's a dedicated upright - you can get a kit to use it with a pipe & tools but you have to virtually dismantle the damn thing to do so - a long-winded process!
In the days when I used the Royal on almost every job, I always used to carry a cylinder as well, which meant I had the best vac for flat carpets and the best for upholstery, hard floors & stairs.
The bonus of a Royal is it makes an excellent back-duster for rugs. You wouldn't believe the amount of dry soil it can knock out of a rug. Sebo has almost no effect in comparison.
Solution used to sell them but I'm not sure if they still do, give them a shout

Agree
The Sebo is an allrounder ... but master of none
Royal is excellent and surprisingly lightweight too .

I absolutely agree with Jim. The Royal is way better than the Sebo.

Check this one out,was at a house I cleaned a month or so back, think this was used on the ark !!!
I have a Tennant, which is a copy of the Sebo, nearly 8 years old now,and still works as it did when I first bought it...

To me the royal is just a kirby copy, but not as versatile or powerful.
If I was after a vac I would search eBay for a newish kirby, they are heavy as hell but good

WE had one of those at home, when I was at junior school 45 years ago!

Mike, have you properly used a Royal? i.e. been out and worked with it, not just a quick back and forth over a clean carpet as a demonstration?
You've hit the nail on the head, a kirby is way too heavy for a carpet cleaner to constantly lug in and out of a van, up and down stairs etc all day long. The royal actually weighs slightly less than the bs46 if I recall correctly and there's nothing wrong with its performance!
If my rotary didn't weigh a ton and wasn't so awkward to drag on and off the van, over gravel drives and up and down stairs I would use it to agitate all carpet cleans because it is by far a superior machine to my Duo. But the Duo is light, easy and quick to set up/pack away and is perfectly adequate on the majority of jobs so I use that for my own convenience and for the sake of my back!
So I'd apply the same logic to a heavy cumbersome vac like a kirby - I would most likely get sick of its weight and awkwardness and therefore not use it all the time, making it pointless to have.

this is were we differ. My number one aim is to do the best job possible..... if this means using a slightly heavier machine then i think my valued customers deserve it ;) ;)
and if you think the kirby is too heavy to use you need to get down the gym you wimp :D

Thanks for all the info lads sounds like the royal has a thumbs up problem with the kirby is it takes you all day and a box of tea bags to get the rep out your office >:( ;D

Don't buy a new Royal or Kirby, get a second hand one of ebay refurbed.
I have two for different jobs. An Oreck XL light and easy and always on the van, Kirby for padding jobs and beating rugs. Combined cost £200!

Sorry Len yes I meant Philip.
