Our groupon goes live tomorrow wish me luck i might need it :-\ Also thanks for the ones who emailed me with advice ;)
-
What is the deal?
-
Two rooms for £28 through lounge classed as two rooms and hall stairs and landing classed as two also hallway alone classed as one room..oh also dave wand got posted today be with you by wedensday :)
-
Thanks for that, maybe email tracking number if you have one.
I bet this thread is going to go nuts :P
So you are getting around £12 per job? Is this because your quiet or looking to build up your client list?
-
bit quiet and thought why not ;D theres no harm in trying something once he who dares wins ... " I hope " ;D also i have a look for tracking number and send over to you cheers
-
Ta, have you limited the number of deals you can sell?
-
Yep 300 but they said prob only about 250 will be redeemed - voucher is valid over 6 months and have limited areas by postcode - before in this area people have done it within a 30 mile radius and sold 300 so hopefully we should have been able to restrict it that way.
-
So they all could want it done for Christmas then?
-
we take the bookings direct from the customer and decide when they can have work done and most likley we will save xmas dates for our regular and better paying customers
-
You will probably get a few calling on the day to ask this or that question , always a good idea to book them direct , ie get the full £28.
-
Jason - cheers hadnt thought of that :)
-
£28 for SHL or Lounge / Diner.
Surely these prices cant be worth getting out of bed for, by the time the costs of running a business are taken out.
???

Lol - Shut up Phil ;D If I wasnt a TACCA mem then you prob wouldnt have much to say! Made it so deal has covered my costs and Im doing it for the upsell - should be interesting :)
-
I simply say ---- This promotion on Groupon is a sample of what we can do , our customers like a deal and if you give these cards to your friends and family they can have a good deal too , I got a lot of work from Groupon customers like that.

why 300? why not 60 then you can judge the response without over-stretching your self

Wey hey, you sound like a teenager ;D What abit of a downer for a TACCA member who has to 'scrape the barrel' to make a living like this ;D And I thought it said on their website that they look for quality companies ???

Mark - The amount I get from Groupon will cover my running costs, its going to 315,000 email addresses in this area for effectively nothing cost wise whereas leafleting that many would cost ££? and Ive set up a web page on my site dedicated to groupon customers. When we book them in we are doing the hard sell thing pushing other rooms, rugs and stain protection at another discounted rate. On the day we have a form for their details, referral recommendations and vouchers for their family / friends. We are also members of a thing called checkatrade and want to get some good feedback for our page on their so will be asking custy to fill out that as well. We were wondering whether to do this for a while and couldnt decide but in the end thought as long as it is approached properly then why not?
-

Exactly what we have geared up to do, if approached right we think this could be a good thing. If not lesson learnt, no harm done.
-
why 300? why not 60 then you can judge the response without over-stretching your self
They work it out by asking how many jobs per week you were happy to do for the deal. This over a 6 month period was worked out to 240 but capped instead, at 300 as a certain % dont normally go through with the deal.
but isn't there real motivation to make as much money as possible out of the deal........ so they really want you to do the maximum number as possible and they would rather get half of 300 deals than half of just 60
and they get their money with 24hrs (as soon as they buy the voucher)
-
I think your'll be workin your butt off for little or no reward (certainly no profit), repeat customers or no repeat customers.
-
Wow Phil, a post without the word TACCA in it! Im shocked ;D
Its a marketing exercise and either way it goes I'll post back with honest info so people know what its about. If we manage to upsell there will be a profit and again I'll be happy to give people details. If not then its our own fault but at least we'll have an extra few people to target for future marketing.
-
So it's 'bait and upsell'
Close to enterprise!
-
Good luck Craig.
-
Good luck Craig.
Lol ;D
-
So it's 'bait and upsell'

Nothing like enterprise - if they want a bedroom doing it'll be £22.50 not £300! That would already be booked in over the phone after asking nicely once, no pressure selling at all.
-
Just to be clear, I wasn't being flippant - I was genuinely wishing you good luck Craig(nozza).
And as I've said many times previously, upselling is not bait & switch.
You wouldn't accuse McDondals of bait & switch just because they ask if you "want fries with that?".
-
Fair enough.
But I really think, sorry know that you can get a good price from the off with the right personality and also as Steve Barnett said trust.
Just food for thought now; with an average job price of £180 then just 350 jobs Per Year! Would be a turnover of £63k
-
Craig,
Good luck, mate. What area are you doing it in? Have you fixed the sqm per room.

Thanks Ash - did wonder for a second ;) will keep everyone posted

Craig - we havent been going long so after a busy start things had slowed a bit and we thought why not - long term it might work out and if not at least Im not stuck indoors. Early days but get where you're coming from, cheers
-
Craig,
Good luck, mate. What area are you doing it in? Have you fixed the sqm per room.
Simon
Simon its for Brighton - they wouldnt let us fix the size >:( so we specified lounge diner as 2 and hsl as 2. They also wanted us to do 2 rooms and a hallway for the £28 but we said no. We've specified the postcodes we'll do. Cleaners before have done it for a 30 mile radius, we're mad but not that mad!
-
Thanks, Craig, good luck with it.
Simon

How does Jason's "Book them direct" approach work? I was under the impression that the customers paid Groupon.
-
They do, but if they should call you to check any details prior to booking, you have the chance to take the booking there & then, and save yourself from giving Groupon their cut.
-
I had the phone call this afternoon from Groupon ;D
Now normally with sales calls I end them asp as they know their product better than I do, but with groupon I was well prepared thanks to this site.
He did throw one stat at me which made me wince, someone (CC'er) in Coventry has just had a few hundred deals at £30 a shot. Even this salesman seems to understand when I said he'll be working well into 2012 to clear that lot.
I declined the offer but would keep an open mind should the economy noise dive, and I needed something like that.
I must admit I liked the earlier comment about someone doing a deal for 20 sq/ft which would be an ideal foot through the door situation although I'm not sure I could put up with constant moans about it being a con when you measure up a standard sized living room and hit them with £80.
-
You can do a similar thing with Facebook ads.
You purposely create an ad with a very poor CTR but put your number and an offer in big letters (part of the image). Then they call you direct without being charged. The ad will run for a few days and then Facebook throttle your views. ;D

Nice one mate hope it goes well...dont forget to book them in for next clean in 6 months or a years time.... I wondered when someone else would get the idea of this Groupon marketing. As for the people slating the idea...Well all I can say is "THANKS GROUPON FOR MY NEW VAN AND additional TRUCKMOUNT"

This is what really p's me off when people make unsubstantiated statements like that. So you've got a new van and new truck mount as a direct result of doing Groupon, is that what you're telling us, Monty? Apologies if I have misread it, but that seems to be what you are telling us.
Simon
-
I suppose, if you think about it, getting a high volume of work but not getting paid for a couple of months allows you to accumulate a wad of notes, always assuming you manage to " work the system " which Jason and Monty have been able to do.
-
Well well,am I reading this wrong or is Neil Williams starting
To `mellow`regarding this Groupon `gig`.
Go on Neil,give it a go,ya know ya want to :) ;) :D ;D 8)

Seems to be a few more carpet cleaners are having a go worth groupon..
-
With Groupon you get paid within 7 days of the customer calling , I take the voucher security code over the phone , tap it into the Groupon website , Groupon pays me in 7 days , I have been paid for work that is booked in for January.
-

Ash / Jason,
Do you mean that some people see the ad and call you first, rather than Groupon?
If it is, I can see how it may be a bit more attractive.
-
Yes people call to clarify points of the deal , I just told them that it helps me if they book direct , and booked 14 jobs in that way.
-
booked in nearly ten already without even going through groupon
-
96 sold already , you will hit the 200 for sure .
-
Thanks,
So presumably you could have an offer for say just Jan - March, get the money up front and finance the gear to do the work?
-
Bloomin`eck`Jason,that’s it,it`s official.I`m coming back
Into carpet cleaning, gonna get me steamer out ASAP.
I promise Neil Williams that I won`t `emigrate`down south

Not this side of my 50th birthday that's for sure.
Mellowing? I wouldn't use that word.
As it would need a total opposite direction in the way I deal with customers (ie I would need to walk out of every property with a cheque far in excess of what the customer expected to write) I would need to be desperate before joining the groupon system.
My business is built on trust between myself & customer, and that will be gone if I 'need' to upsell for the sake of having to.
-
Neil,
Good point.

Good for you, how many did you upsell on and to what average value per job.
I see your deal is for approx 90 minutes of cleaning? How many of you go out to each job? If 2 people on a job, I guess the deal ends after 45 minutes?

Some intresting info about groupon
-
If I was to do Groupon it would be in Jan/Feb the traditional quiet period certainly not leading up to our busiest time of the year
-
Agree with Steve, bonkers time of year to be doing super cheap jobs when you can fill your diary with full price paying customers.
Simon
-
I was looking at " previous deals " and found one in Southampton which was listed as 75% off carpet cleaning which on the deal suggested >> Save £82 on a £110 normal priced carpet clean --------------you pay £28 <<
TOTAL SOLD 1 DEAL COMPLETED

Right so heres an update;
Yesterday we booked in £900 work without groupon over 20 customers so I suppose not great if you look at it as £45 per customer if averaged out across the board. These were all because they had seen the deal. Last month we were doing a deal when we started at 2 rooms for £45 so for us I suppose it isnt really any different except we didnt have to deliver ?000 leaflets to get that response.
The deal is still live as capped at 300 and will run over 7 days until it reaches that amount. I think the total amount sold is at 213 at the moment. This morning we have booked 11 calls, most of which 1 bed flats so no chance of extra rooms but 3 have requested extra rooms ranging from 22.50 to 77.50 (including 11.20 from groupon works out about £23 per job over those 11) - also had e-mail from someone asking for 7 extra rooms but not booked in yet so who knows what will happen along the way.
We're not high pressure upselling, just a quick question at time of booking 'Would you like to take advantage of the discounted rates on offer as we need to allocate the correct amount of time for your appointment due to the high level of work we are experiencing'?
Where we were busy in Sept we slipped on the leaflet delivering so Oct has been quiet. In a few years time when we are more established then we probably wouldnt do groupon. This is the first christmas we have been around so we're not sure how it will be, we are keeping groupon jobs to a max of 8-10 per week in December though to fit in other jobs if any come through. I think the difference is a lot of you are well established in your areas so it probably would be mad for you to do it.
Another thing we are doing is collecting addresses / emails etc for future marketing and asking people some general questions like price you would expect to pay, how often do you have carpets cleaned and trying to book people in for the future by offering a discount.
Sorry for long post

Craig,
Are you using your TM for the Groupon jobs?
Simon
-
i think we will only see the true sucess of groupon after say 12 months , it will be very interesting to see how valuable a list of these customers are.
surely they are not going to be interested in paying a sensibleprice in the future they will simply look for a cheap option again.
-
simon we are not using tm ..richard most of the customers we have up sold to in which to be honest is almost all of them they are happy to pay our normal prices and are only buying groupon as it has reminded them that there carpets can be cleaned but saying that obviously there are the hardcore ones that only want there two for £28 but we wouldnt want these or expect these to be customers anyway
-
If different CC's do a groupon from time to time I'm sure there will be no loyalty to any company that have done an offer in the past. I've forgotten the names of the a lot of the Groupon offers I've bought.
But people do buy from people so am sure you will retain some
-
Its an experiment and only time will tell ;)
-
You'll be ready for a break come Xmas Lol
-
Feel like one already phones been on fire ;D
-
I'm confused it's only showing 25 sold on the advert at the moment
-
Robert it sold 190 yesterday but resets itself the next day and starts again :)
