Does it make a big difference  if you are top or bottom of first page on google rankings for business ?

Answer to question, no just being page one rank one is not good enough.

being at the top is not always the best it is having the right capture when your there that can make a difference.

We tested something yesterday for google that got us placed position 2 within 1 hour (not window cleaning related).

we then asked people to search for what it was and asked which they would click on they choose position 2 over position 1 as ours was more appealing to them.

when someone comes to your site if it looks bad, and is hard to get your details people will just click off of it, people do not always go for the best looking sites either they just have to be engaging and do what they are meant to do.

it is easy to get page one on google if you know how, staying there is another matter hence why many people have to pay others to keep them there.

To the person that does well and is not on page one, I would bet money there is a reason for this and I would also be surprised if your not ranking higher than you think, maybe your looking at it from a different angle to that of a seo guy would. (not saying you are, just thinking of it from a different way)

All very true Ian, but it's not much good being a top-looking, attractive, easy to browse web-site and being down at the bottom of page one, the ones above you are going to be getting the hits.

It's human nature.

People don't really want to examine a search engine results page or a website for it's cosmetic appeal; let's be honest, they want an 'intro' and a number and a professional at the end of the line.

So whatever you're site is like, number one is going to be better than number 8 in 90% of cases with all other things being equal.

very true Matt, but what I was saying is that number 1 is not always the best, I have been testing it for years, Easy to browse is a must have, as is finding your contact details straight away.

You rank well for the terms as well. Like someone else said...if no ones looking...they are not going to find you!
