Title: Trad so much easier with pure water
Post by: Andrew McCann on November 09, 2005, 08:16:50 pm
Don't know if anyone else has noticed this since they went WFP but squeegee work is so much easier now we use pure water to make our solution. I am in a very hard water area at around 400 PPM so it may be more pronounced for me than say someone in a soft water area or around 1 to 200PPM.

I use Evans high class detergent, not expensive at all at around £6.00 for 5 ltrs. Now I use pure water I am mixing in far less detergent. I seem to get better slip and detailing is very easy.

Personally if I were still totally trad and knew what I know now I would buy a very small RO just to make water for my solution. I think they start at around £40 from RO MAN.

Anyone else noticed this?

Sure have.

I wished we'd known then what we know now.

Like you I'm in a very hard water area. The first bit we bought for our WFP was the RO system before fitting out the van.

I was just curious and fillled up our 5 gallon barrel with pure water for the next days trad work.

I was staggered at the difference.

I would also advise anyone using traditional methods to get a small RO system up and running.

Tried some water from my DI cartridges and it seems great.

Water is a lot 'softer' so you need less cleaning additive.

Glass definitely seems to be easier to clean - less smeary too. Glass almost 'looks' cleaner but then again it's been a while since I had my eyes tested  ::)

Water from a rain butt works just as well. Try adding a little dishwasher rinse aid to your usual mixture. You will be amazed. Dai

Is it easy to fit and use an RO system? I`m not very handy but might be interested in a small system.

Hi Gerry

Yes its easy to fit. Comes with all instructions and fittings you will need. If you intend to run it from an outside tap get one of the adaptors that RO Man supply.. I think they are around 2 quid.

Great results on insides too - Pure water and a dash of GG4 in a mist spray.  The trick is to use as little as possible - great results with microfibre cloths.
