Title: Hose run
Post by: Robin Ray on October 12, 2011, 07:06:59 pm
Hi I have a Ninja twin 3 stage vac and have only used it with 50ft of hose so far and I get excellent drying times. It would be nice to add some more hose sometimes, Ashbys claim it will operate 200ft of hose however I not entirely sure about that. Does anyone have the same set up and what is the maximum hose length you have operated?

Thanks
Rob

I had a mytee speedster with twin 3 stage and used to run 75-100ft easily, never tried much more than that untill my tm died on me with 175ft of hose set up, I connected the speedster and although it wasn't mega powerfull it still finished the job off nicely.

I know it's not a ninja but i'd defo go more than 50

Most I've ever done is 100ft with the Ninja.
That's only twice in 3.5 years.
Wouldn't know above that as have never
needed longer.
Good job really 'cos I've only got 100ft.
No problem with it either although as soon
as I could I dropped to 75 then 50.
Done 75 a few times and not a lot of difference
between that and 50 which I use 90% of the time.

Same as John, 75 Ft is ok if you need to.

Used 75 feet regularly with no obvious drop in performance...............going up to 100 feet would I'm sure result in slightly longer drying times.

Thanks for the replies. Ill definitely give some longer runs ago now.

Cheers

I know this will spark another debate ( Hi Jim  ;D ) but I would suggest you try using 2 inch pipe if you are looking to use longer hose runs. I have a twin vac machine and it really dose perform a lot better with bigger hose.

Hi nevil,

We did discuss this a while ago and Jim said 2"would not work because of the configuration of the motors and that a ninja hasnt got the airflow to remove all the water from the hose. I have got some 2" off my gutter vac I keep meaning to try it out

I had an email  from Derek Ashby today with a link  claiming if you had a 400psi pump you could work at 400feet well the pump would.

Personally i have never needed more than 100 feet

Hi Robin. You simply don't restrict the machine as much when running bigger pipe. Don't take any notice of what I or anyone else says about it. Just try it. I reckon Jim tried when he was fresh from his servicemaster training and didn't have his machine plugged in.  Sorry Jim  :) Seriously though, I was comfortable running 75 even 100 ft of hose with 2inch pipe. With 1.5 50ft always seemed the max.

Well we agree on something Nevil :)  50ft is the most I'd ever go on a twin motor in-series configuration like the Ninja.

Guys, if you can't notice any difference in performance at the wand between 25ft and 100ft on an in-series machine running 1.5" hose..... wow ....

I cleaned with Ninjas for years before upgrading, and still use one for the odd job now and again.  I could always notice a marked improvement in vacuum when dropping back from 50 to 25.  On the very odd occasions I had to go up to 75ft it was an utter nightmare.  It was like running the machine on 50ft with only one vac motor working.

So I don't know where Mr Ashby gets the idea that a Ninja could operate anywhere past 50ft, let alone the distances he states!  Even their booster is completely idiotic, adding more lift to a system that already has plenty of lift but desperately needs airflow.  Nigel's booster mod (that used the 3rd vac to create a parallel system) looked really good, I'd have loved to have a little play with that.

Nevil, I remember the debate you and Robin are referring to.... I think if I recall correctly, you had been using 2" hose on a machine configured in-parallel?  I think we might have concluded that that was the difference in why it worked :)

I have tried 2" hose on my Ninja a few times and I stand by what I say - it hasn't got the oomph to evacuate the recovered liquid from the hose back to the machine.  Doesn't mean it doesn't work, but it's just a pain in the ass lifting the pipe up in the air and tipping the water back to the machine, after you've cleaned every 10 sqm or so.  If you don't do that, when you put the wand down or disconnect it and lay the hose on the floor, all your hard work will promptly re-appear and come flooding out all over the carpet again!!!

Another important thing to consider (and I probably mentioned this before, but who can be ar*ed to go find the topic again? :D) .....  2" vac hose has approximately twice the internal volume of 1.5".  As we all know, the motors have to expel air from the system in order to create a vacuum and therefore move air.  The internal volume of 50ft of 2" hose is larger than the internal volume of the machine's waste tank!!!  Therefore there's a massive delay between putting the wand on the carpet and attaining optimum lift.

With an in-series configuration, the negatives of the 2" hose far outweighs the tiny advantage in airflow, because the in-series config aims to work using lift rather than airflow, it's a bit like putting alloy wheels on a Reliant Robin, totally pointless :)

Dammit I wasn't going to reply to this but I took the bait  :-\  :-[  :(
