Been collecting / harvesting now for a few days with the
Weather being drizzell to light/medium `fall.`
Ppm at 028 tds the other day, usually I just let drain away
Anything above 10ppm.The last two or three days that water
With slowish drizzell being added to the water at 028 ppm
Has gone down to 002ppm ! Usually, had it risen to above say
40ppm I would`nt have been surprised.
I`m assuming my tds meter is working oaky, which I`m sure it
Is.
Anyone, anything like this, has it ever happened to you ?
I `m flabbergasted.I just cant understand it, ,hope Jeff Brimble will
Come to my help here ?
??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? ??? :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\

Cannot help, but I do like a challenge ;) Check youraverage tap water reading with the TDS meter and maybe pure vodka.
If it was at 28tds then adding say 100L of water at 000tds would only reduce the tds by a small ammount say 3-5tds at the most bringing it down to say 25 at best. So getting it down to 002 is almost impossible unless you have washed the old water with thousands of litres. ???

Can`t understand it Jeff,just can`t.I think I`ll give the
Vodka bit a miss though.
It`s got to be the drizzell coming down at 000ppm.
I normally `harvest`at 000 to 001 ppm anyway,cos`
I`m a bit fussey with my rainwater harvesting.Well,
Not really,I`m just a tight git with my resin. ::) ::)
I`ve had drizzell at 70ppm,and that’s going some.
I like to keep my catchment area clean enough to eat
My dinner from,it`s the only way to get accurate
Assessments at doing what we ( rainwater harvestors)
Do.

question here
we find that water collected in spring/early summer goes green from the pollen in the air
the guys at rain harvest told me is wasnt pollen, but colour change from storing water in high temperatures
i am not sure on this...as at the time, my car and window sills were covered in green dust
anyhow...
do you guys know the answer?
has it happened to you?
do you use any filters like the one in the link below, before you di the water?

James, it could go slight tinge of green from photosynthesis due to sunlight ? £195 :o maybe try a large scale U Bend and let gravity seperate the heavier particles,
Lewis, TIGHT GIT Ha Ha Ha your a man after my own heart Can you try to duplicate the experiment, it must be "Doubtfires magik water" if it works I will buy some ;)
-
thanks jeff :)
any links to the ubend?
-
DIY I used drain pipe with a drain in the base for occasional emptying of sediment but you being quite handy could use smaller bore rainwater pipe.(Not a very good pic)You wont need any filters. :)

Outlet lower than inlet.

ok i getcha
does this not differ in any way to downpipe feeding straight in to water butt?
what with tap being a few inches higher than the bottom of the butt?
the sediment would surely settle below tap level?
-
Yep, but mine works ! If its direct into an IBC then maybe the large area may not allow settlement so well. Its the weight of the column of water that filters the sediment, but hey its not built in stone, I have a garage roofs that I collect off and aint tried putting a collector high up a house gutter then sending it back up there to the outlet.
However you build your Rainwater system you need to remeber that there are millions of gallons up there and you should have a way of turning the supply off under storm conditions. ps james I like your new soap solution !
-
i didnt think of turning it off....good point!!!
thanks for the advice jeff....customers love it when i say im recyling rain....plus it shuts up those who accuse me of wasting water!!!
btw, what new soap solution? i dont follow?
-
mmm i think you should tidy that shed - garage out a little :-*
