Hi All, I have realised, over the past week, that my waterproof gear isn't actually that waterproof. It's fine for half an hour or so but I need something better if I am going to be out in it for a day.
Where do you recommend for some decent, breathable gear? Thanks for any advice.

Look for clothing that ideally has Goretex or Porelle inner lining in the clothing.
It is the lining that is important and allows the fabric to breathe and repel water from the outer layer.
These are the best in the industry and although Goretex is widely known the Porelle products perform even better.
Make sure the product says Waterproof not Showerproof.

Sprayway do very good light weight waterproof clothes.
Remember that the more you wash 'waterproof' clothes the less 'waterproof' they become,they need rewaterproofing.

I am a great fan of Musto weather gear - really works well.
I bought a Musto bright red soft shell jacket, with dry-suit zips and hood. Never fails to keep me dry. Had it for two years bought half price in a sale for £95 well worth every penny.
When cold but not too wet I have a Musto shower-proof Fleece which is the best I have ever had. Once again bought in a sale for about £45.
Couple this with a a cheap pair of regatta water-proof over trousers (£12 on the internet) for when it is really wet and I can work through most weathers and still stay mainly dry.
Shoes - Clarks Gore-tex walking shoes £85 - very light but fully waterproof in all but the worst of weather. On my second pair now and wear them almost everywhere as they are so comfortable.
Investing in the above a few years ago has really improved my working day.

i bought a helly hansen jacket today kept me really dry and warm today

goretex boots and jacket.mine are from blacks.bergaus or any of the top outdoor brands will provide you with really good waterproof gear.
been out all day in the drizzle.i looked like i was soaked to the skin but i was nice and dry underneath!!no wet feet anymore!! :D :D :D
its defo worth spending money on decent gear IMO.

I use
Seal skin fingerless gloves with extreme cold weather glove
Paramo smock
Gortex military trousers
Buffalo special 6 top for freezing days
Gears not cheap but works, the paramo need washing and reproofing
Once a month.
Also to stop you from getting wet from sweat , use berghaus
Wicking quick dry tshirt.
Almost impossible to stay totally dry

gortex golf jackets and pants , breathable comfortable with plenty of movement

Golf gear , got to laugh. I took a guy to climb snowdon
And told him to buy some Gortex and layers asNi mentioned above,
He turned up in his golf gear and brolly :-) said he never got
Wet playing 18 holes! Yep you guessed it he got totally soaked. And never dried.
I find it best to get gear I mentioned as it's breathable
And yes sometimes you do get wet but it's designed to use your
Body heat to dry almost instantly if you are working. I would always
Recomend buffalo and paramo gear.

I Use 'Dickies' Jacket and waterproof trousers available from most Farmers Supplies, 'Mole Valley' here in Devon.
jacket £27 trousers £17 breathable and strechy material so goes over everything in winter.
had mine now two years and wouldn't be without them, very dry all day!
And light enough for summer rain use too.
