For window cleaning within the building industry you have to be registered with the CIS (construction industry scheme) which is done via your NI number.
It means that basically you are classed as a sub contractor and the taxman will take 20% or 30% of your profit from the job and the deduction will be made by who ever is paying you.
You then offset that tax already paid when you do your tax return.
